Default Not happy with touch up paint stick!

My 2016 Goldwing color is Candy Prominence Red (R342C). Touched up some chips in the paint with a touch up paint bottle. The paint label has the correct code of my bike. After the paint dried it was to dark, almost black in color. Only tried it out on 2 chips, good thing because it looks like little black dots on the bikes red paint. Bad paint or something else?

Anytime I’ve use a touchup paint it doesn’t matter it always looks black or darker Then the color of the paint sometimes caveman style I’ll take a Crayola crayon and try to match the color heat it up a little bit put it on the spot and let it cool down and then wax over the top and that seems to do a better job then the Touch up paint.. ..

    Cool

The 1800 Goldwing paint is a tri-coat paint, like candy-apple. Needs a base, a tint and a clear coat.

That is why the touch-up does not match.

when i ordered touch up paint for mine threw colorrite. it states that you also have to match the primer. so if it was primed in a lighter color then you would have to put the lighter color primer in the chip then paint it with the appropriate color. if you don't then yes the paint will turn out darker if thats all you put in the chip.. hope this makes sense..

Thanks for the responses. I didn’t know about the different steps to get the paint to match. The instructions made no mention of it. But the dealership was sure quick to take my money. Just wondering if they knew by just using the touch up stick it was not going to work.

dealership either did'nt know or they just wanted to sell you something. what iv'e taken notice in dealerships for the past 20 years is, anybody with experience no longer works there because they don't pay very well, those with experience will normally open their own shops. most shops are full of kids with little training. parts people that if they can't find it on the computer it doesn't exist. i walked into my honda dealer quite a few years ago needing parts for a honda 99 valkyrie interstate. told them exactly what i needed and their first response was. is that a honda. .

My trike 1997 GL1500 suffered ding in fiberglass fender from a car door's careless operator, Honda Candy Spectra Red, ordered touch up kit on line from Touch Up Direct @ https://touchupdirect.com/?gclid=EAI...SAAEgLrfPD_BwE

Got primer, base coat, tint coat and clear top coat in kit. Set in my shop chair, TV on over on far wall, used a hair dryer on low to speed drying between applications, PERFECT it was. It even came with fine sand paper & test patches to hone your technique. I used the brush applicator.

A good parts guy can make an average parts store a primo parts store. They'll know part xxxx will work the same and fit the same as yyyy even though that darn computer doesn't even mention the possibility.

i totally agree, we have a napa store in town that the guy thats been there like forever uses the older books he has on the shelf. he can look up any part you need and get it promptly.

the other guys that work there if the computer does'nt show them a part for a 1980 gm truck they don't have a clue.

I wish they had the Blue Diamond for my 2016 Indian Roadmaster. I've heard there is some car that has that same color but I've not found it. And Indian rapes you with their little touchup pen.

Those little dings are disturbing for sure, I've never had any luck with those touch up pens an I've tried so many. I've not tried that crayon trick that was mentioned in a previous post, that for sure would be worth a try. Match the crayon color as best you could, heat it just a bit and dob it in the ding, maybe try and smooth it out a bit and a little wax or polish over, yeah, I'll be trying that my next ding. Quite possible it won't last long, if not, do it all over again.

I was told to use a wooden toothpick, the round kind. Break in half and smash the broken end on something hard until you have created a tiny paint brush. Then dab the paint on the toothpick into the booboo. Take your time until you get it completely filled back in.nI'd say I was 50% successful with this trick. Don't think I have enough patience. Looks better than using the pen because I could never get the pen on just the booboo. I always got some on the surrounding area which just made the booboo bigger in the end. At least to toothpick trick kept the pain in just the booboo.

I have. Same problem. No Blue Diamond. I just need the year make and model of the car that is very similar if not the same as what Indian/Polaris is calling Blue Diamond. I thought I was onto one, a Mercedes, but I saw one in person and it just wasn't the same. Apparently this color is on the rare said I guess.

Go to automotive paint supplier. They can take a picture of it and mix some up. I've done body work for years and I've never seen a touch up that didn't look like one.
