    Default Almost there.

    Hi all , Ya'all.

Don't remember when I joined this forum , but as things go in life stuff happens.

Any way my saga of rehab continues and my frustration dealing with my motorcycle obsession . Beating myself up trying to stay on two wheels ( and continuing to add insult to injuries from stroke damage and some mobility issues )

I have pretty much decided to get a Freewheeler.

Some friends have Goldwing trikes , and a few others have TriGlide's. I don't need or want all that radio stuff and always liked the clean look of my RoadKing in the past.

I have found a 2016 Freewheeler with only a very few miles ( I mean less than 100) the low mileage concerns me relevant to the year model.

Can anyone give me a little heads up as to what I should look for when inspecting the machine.

Any thing that should cause me to keep my wallet in my trousers .

    Thanks for any help, Doug

14's and up have sometimes had tranny oil migrate to the primary. On such a low mileage ride, I'd wonder about that. Ask them if they have done the "fix" for that (installing a vent n the primary side).

For some reason.....The migrating issue was only on the Tri-Glides, Not the with the Freewheels...

The migration problem can happen with any hydraulic clutch operated HD model

I wouldn't worry about low miles....I recently bought a 19 Tri-Glide with 206 miles And last December my sun bought a decked out 2018 Soft- tail with under 6 hundred miles... Sometimes someone will buy a bike and for one reason or another ride it for a short while and just park it never to ride it again...Are you getting it from a dealer ?

If so they can run a DNA on the VIN number ...

A 2016 low mileage should have already had the brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid changed, not because of the mileage , HD wants it done every 2 years no matter what the mileage. This is a question you need to ask IMO

Thanks for the oil migration tip .

How can you tell if it is doing that ??

I am aware that the fluids will need to be changed , so I'll figure that into my offer.

The things I like are that no one has messed around with the engine /exhaust /fuel map as far as I can tell. When I bought my Road King Custom that's what sold it to me.

I have "O" to little confidence in some guy who thinks he is smarter than the engineers who designed the machine . Even though the "Stage kits" that are so popular are supposed to make all kinds of difference in performance.

I like mine stock when I get it, so I at least know what if anything I do can be easily turned back to stock.

The machine is at a used dealer in the area, he has a good reputation and comes highly recommended by the folks who took great care of my Road King Custom.

I spoke with them this morning, he said bring your helmet , take it for a test ride. Those are big ++'s in my book.

I'll report back after I see it in person and maybe take that test ride.

If the oil level in the transmission is low....But like i said the Freewheelers did not have that problem...Beside the 2016 Freewheelers came with the 103 engine, The problem was manly with the M8 engines..

Bob, any of the hydraulic clutch bikes back to 2014 can exhibit the oil migration problem.

HD has not fully addressed this problem and they should. Their recalls on the hydraulic clutches should have gone all the way back IMO. I have seen some 103 engine d bikes and trikes that had this happen to. The 103 engines had no reports of oil sumping problems that I have heard or seen. This is more prone on M8 engines. These are 2 completely different problems

    I went , I test rode, I'll pass.

Beautiful machine in the charcoal black that sparkles like metal flake in the sun.

To say I was disappointed in the ride would be an understatement .

The front end was so hard to turn and trying to maintain a straight line was a real work out.

The straight axle was so rough I thought there was something really wrong.

Went back in and told them my feelings, they tried adjusting the tire pressure lower. I think we went down to 20lbs , but the ride didn't improve enough to cause me to write a check.

I don't see me on one unless it already has an EZsteer ( not sure about the name) installed.

If I do end up with a trike , I'm thinking it will be a Goldwing set up with independent rear suspension and an EZsteer already installed.

I'm kind of bummed out, but for anyone who wants a Freewheeler and can deal with the rough ride. This would be a sweet looking ride. It's in Winston Salem, Nc. at Neal Kertner motor sports.
