CSC vs HANNIGAN:

Hello everyone. I'm a new member and plan to be somewhat active. This family owns two GW 1500 Trikes (1991 & 1999), one with a Motor Trike conversion and the other with a CSC conversion. The MT conversion is by far a much softer ride but the CSC is better handling. However, I've been tossing around the idea of getting rid of both trikes and purchase just one GW1800 Trike for both my wife and myself. We will alternate B___H...lol. I have actually been thinking about purchasing a BMW Trike conversion since I did have a 2002 K1200LTE, which I loved but had to give it up due to some knee problems. So...In essence what I'm going to ask are opinions as to which conversion is the best....California Side Car or Hannigan? I've actually seen the CSC kit in the crate and it's quite impressive. I've also seen the Hannigan kit just before it was about to be installed. It looked much simpler but very sturdy looking. The CSC looked very busy loaded with parts which usually means more items could fail. However, the Hannigan being much more simple seemed more likely to have a longer life with fewer parts. Now for performce questions. Which has more comfort and which is better handling?

Wish I could help but my only experience is with a Champion kit on a Harley. From what I've read both Hannigan and CSC are good products so I don't suppose you could go wrong with either. Welcome aboard!!! I'm sure someone else with knowledge of both products will chime in soon!!!

All I can say is I have the Hannigan kit on my Harley Ultra & I love it. CSC is a great kit too. I think you asked your question @ the right time as Zook was just down @ the Hannigan plant & they installed a kit on a 1800 I believe. Give him a call & I'm sure he could help you out with your needs. He just posted a msg. that he was heading for Daytona............

Hey, drjoelo - we have a 2008 GW1800 CSC and absolutely love it! We've put almost 20K miles on it since we bought it (new from the dealer) in Sept. 2009. Went coast to coast last year - never a moment of uneasy handling. (I'm the co-rider and enjoyed every mile.) We've put lots of chrome-y bits on (see my profile pictures) and nothing has fallen off or mis- or under-performed. We also bought a tow-behind Escapade trailer from CSC, and went to their factory in Virginia to pick it up - nicest people you would ever want to deal with!

Hope this helps a little bit - for 'technical' questions, talk to my better half, known on here as Scalp Hunter.

Your assessment of busy versa simple and strong is dead on. Hannigan hands down. The new Motor Trike is in there too ya know...

Welcome aboard..! I own a GL1800 with a Hannigan Kit 06 Bike/2010 kit. I rode a CSC while searching and it is a great kit. I chose the Hannigan because I felt that the suspension offered my better half a more comfortable ride. My old rear could pretty much handle anything. The sports car type suspension with the coil over shocks and anti-sway bar just seemed to be what I thought would be a smoother ride. I was not disappointed. Again I really considered CSC in my search and think it is a great kit but we love our Hannigan. Good luck with your decision and either one will be a great kit for you. Ride safe! BTW..I have a friend that builds tanks for the military and he chose the Hannigan also based on the suspension. Again good luck!

Welcome aboard Dr. Joe. Glad you joined us. I can not help you on your CSC Vs. Hannigan. Both are good conversions, if both you and your wife like to ride you might get that GW 1800 for her and a BMW for you. One of you might really miss being in control. Good luck you really can not go wrong with either conversion.

One consideration, I rarely see mentioned:
The Hannigan is one of the few conversions that extends the wheel base. If you give consideration to your co-rider, she will find the fact she no longer sits directly over the rear wheel a most pleasing relief!
Along w/the fact the Hannigan suspension is more than just an up/down IRS system.
As I have posted before, wife and I road tested about everything available.
The Hannigan was the last one. After about 5 miles on the Hannigan, wife leaned up and said this is the one isn't it.
I then wrote this:

Dr. Joe, You might want to take a look at my profile and pics... I am happy to say that I really have been impressed with the Hannagan. I am stil offering my rig for sale. Trike still has only 8700 miles on it and the conversion only about 1000 miles....
