Wow, that is not good at all. Glad it happened while the tech was riding it, and not you.
I know it is useless, but things like this are what have always made me leery of computer control of a motorcycle.
I have a 2019, I have NOT had the software updated per the 1+ year old notice.
Hopefully this is a one-off, and not indicative of what may happen with other Trike owners.

I totally agree, Kevin. The bikes/trikes have become too complicated with all the computer systems, and maybe too dangerous when those systems fail. If there was an option to "delete" all or most of the computers, I'd favor that option so as not to put the bike in control of a computer. I couldn't believe the size of the trouble shooting manual the tech was using to run down the problem and most of it was full of analysis of electrical circuits and "logic" flowcharts leading to the next steps for troubleshooting. I'd hate to be paying for all the hours it takes to get through all that (mine is still under warranty).
I do have to admit some reluctance in trusting the trike going forward...especially if the problem is a one-off problem. Heck, my wife wants me to replace it as she thinks it is a "lemon". Not sure it has reached the legal definition of a lemon yet, but we'll see. Now I'm just waiting for the new brake disks and calipers to show up at the dealer so they can finish the repair.

The more I think about this...something seems to be missing. There is no servo that can apply brakes, even in the event of a component failure....OH, I just realized, with the Reflex "safety" system it does seem to apply the brakes when the sensors believe you are going into a curve too quickly.
I've seen more than a few BCM's fail, but never resulting in a brake lock up. Guess it depends on what & how the BCM fails.
Hmmm, more to ponder.
Agreed, not at Lemon Law yet. But this is certainly the worst case component failure that I've read about. Will be very interested in reading what it gets narrowed down to, how it is resolved, and what reasonable assurance there can be (if any) it will not happen again.

I agree with you Kevin, especially with respect to the "reasonable assurance" it won't happen again. The trike is still down while the dealership waits on brake parts to complete the "repair" and to take a test ride. Ultimately, Harley could not (or would not) say if the BCM replacement would really fix the issue. I and the tech are also still puzzled about the recall flash version being different than the original used when I brought the trike in for the recall. In the end, I just don't think I can trust the trike anymore and the added concern that my warranty will expire in 60 days. That is why I traded the trike over the weekend for new 2020 Tri Glide Ultra, and thanks to my dealer for making sure I didn't lose a dime on the deal.
If I ever learn what caused the problem, I'll post it.

WOW ... that's a dealer interested in making the customer happy. When my 07 Ultra started acting wanky with air temp over 90* (pinging, running hot, stalling at lights), they told me the only thing they could do was install a tuner and tune it better. Oh yea ... at my expense and since most 07's were experiencing this issue, tuners were back ordered and it would probably be until the fall before they were available. He did end up finding me one about 5 weeks later and after a couple of tuning attempts, I took the bike to an indy and they did a dyno tune on it and it was fine after that. Be glad you have a dealer that will support you ... well ... that and now you have another two years to not worry about the cost of the trouble shooting ...
Any updates? Did the dealer get the parts in and install them?
I wanted to update all on my wife's 2019 Tri Glide service. As I had mentioned earlier, my wife was advised NOT to ride her trike until my dealer had a chance to see if it could have software version checked and updated if needed. Her trike was delivered yesterday and she was told it is OK to ride.
Her software was flashed successfully with the latest version. Sorry, I don't know any more about version numbers or why there is a different version than was originally flashed at the recall.
For me, I'm happy this saga is over and my wife's trike is fine. After I pick up my new 2020 Tri Glide today, I hope to get some nice fall riding in before the cold weather hits.

Congrats on your new Tri Glide! Wishing you many miles of smiles on it.
COLD? We got down to 37 last night, and have to do a bunch of test riding today...with a high of 53...not bad, but different than the 80* day we had a few days ago.
Then in a couple of days it is dipping below 30 degrees. brrr
Please keep us updated on your trade-in. I am very interested to hear the rest of the story!
Thanks
Kevin

Hi, how's your wife's 2019 TriGlide since the software upgrade? I also have a 2019 and recently found out about the recall. Have almost 4000 miles with no issues (some one is watching out for me I guess.) I don't want to be afraid to ride it. I've already spoken to the dealer and they will perform the software update. Just have to get it there.
I have over 27000 miles on my 2019, and they still have not figured out what is going on. Two different deals have look at the issue. BMC has been replaced and flashed software. I get the code when I use both front and back brake at the same moment, usually a red light pops on the dash for a second when this happens. No side effects on the trike its self except the code.

Not sure if the info in this video is relevant to this thread, but it is some good info for folks with 2019 & 2020 HD Trikes to have.

Sorry for the late response. My wife's trike is performing just fine and hope it stays that way. Not sure if her later production date (final assembly of June 2019 and engine build of May 17, 2019) may have incorporated any revised components (e.g. body control modules) or software, but might be a possibility.
