WHEW!!
FINALLY!!!
What a complicated, ridiculous system. Its so easy to do this in Texas...
So, after making an appointment with the DMV, then the State Patrol ... around the 17th of September, my day with the State Patrol finally came today Yep, in excess of 8 weeks). I was glad I took the earliest appointment I could 07:30. Mom isn't getting up until around 10:30-11:00, so sh would sleep through the whole thing. I told her last night if anything happened, she should call.
As per my norm, I got there 5 minutes after 7. The spot was set up as a weigh station, so I was concerned that I was in the wrong place. The email I got confirming my appointment, said to stay in the car.
The only trooper there came up and told me to park on the other side of the concert barrier for the scale, and come into the office.
Okay ... when I got into the office, I handed him the paperwork and he told me, "The officer that does that is helping on a shooting in Grand Junction (the weigh station is in Loma, like 14 miles away)". Of course I was disappointed. He told me to go back to my car and he would find out what is going on and come tell me in a couple minutes.
Did as I was told. He came back a few minutes later and told me the officer was 10 minutes out and he was aware of the appointment, sit tight and he would take care of me.
About 15 minutes later the officer showed up, set the area I was in up to do the "Road Worthy and VIN Inspection". He then came I handed him the folder of paperwork and he asked for my license and the number of the check I would be paying with. Gave him that and we proceeded to do the road worthy part of the inspection (basically checking operation of the lights and safety chain stuff), then he verified the VIN. He told me to sit tight and he'd be right back with the paperwork, I wrote the check for $50 and waited about ten minutes. He said that would be $50, I handed him the check and he handed me the paperwork and said I was all set to get my plates .... Amen.
One last step, actual plate and registration purchase.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to the 'United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'
Alan, glad you got done with all the hoop jumping to put your TK1 on the road. You will like it!
Way easier to do here in PA!
"I don't need a map. I still have a road in front of me!"
We had Ice and Snow Monday ... today is 60* and sunny .... unless you search out shady spots ... there is almost no snow or ice to be found ... well except for the mountains that surround this Valley, they are all snow capped right now ...
Made an appointment for Tuesday at 15:15 to do the actual plate purchase. Then it will be all done.
I think Colorado is a tad snobbish ... they wouldn't accept the certificate of origin as a title. Hence the VIN and Road Worthy junk.

Well, went to get to my appointment today. Scheduled for 3:15.
Got there like 2:50 and there was a Sign that said it was closed due to the election . For the life of me, I can not figure out what elections have to do with the DMV, except that in typical government fashion, just another excuse to get a day off ... probably with pay.
Not even gonna mention the fact they scheduled an appointment, notified me this morning to remind me ... and closed it down anyway. Can tyou tell we are a Blue state????
The TK1 is legal ... finally got it done ...
When I checked in, ya know for my appointment, I got and apology for not notifying me that I had an appointment on a day they were closed. Their system won't allow them to notify me (outside contractor does the appointments ... BS????), but they did flag my name so when I did come in, they could apologize.
Apparently, they needed extra folks at the last minute to record all the Trump votes .. LOL ... now if it was Denver, it would be Biden votes. Anyway, I thanked them for the apology and while there, I got a plate for my old trailer.
It had fallen off or was stolen and I didn't know it until the police notified me that they had evidence in their evidence locker that they believe was mine. I don't know if it was stolen and the police caught someone or it just fell off and they recovered it. Anyway, it looked like it had been run over several times, or was in a wreck. It was folded in half and one corner was bent over to the back. It also came with a letter that said it needed to be replaced ... duh. So for $6.00, I was able to get a new one. So all my trailers are legal.
Good deal Alan! Finally!

Wow, talk about hoops to jump thru
Glad it worked out finally

Well ... I guess you could call it hoops, but, it's more like an effort in futility with a subsequent underwhelming moment of joy:
3 phone calls to the DMV ... to figure out what I needed before I show up, then to figure out what I needed after the first two appointments.
4 appointments with the DMV (one on a day it was closed) One was where they told me what I had gotten as a result of phone calls was not enough. One to get a one day temp registration to be allowed to take it to the state patrol and to tell me I still needed a weight certification. And of course the one where I finally had all they wanted.
$10 to have it weighed (the Statement of Origin from Texas said it weighed 520#, when actually weighed it was 543#, guess the ratcheting straps and wheel chocks, etc I had in the tool box weighed 23#), If you ever need to get something's weight certified, I'm told most Luv's truck stops can do that. And one near me did. Guess Colorado doesn't trust Texas or the manufacture of the TK1 (Aluma).
$50 for a state patrol to "verify the VIN" and "verify it road worthy", basically check the lights and ensure it had safety chains. Should be noted that the DMV can verify the VIN, but, only if the item has a Colorado title, which of course doesn't need a VIN inspection ... LOL. But, they have 4 parking spaces that are reserved for VIN inspections. The only thing I've ever seen in those spaces is DMV employee's smoking
$7.08 temporary 1 day plate to allow me to bring it to the state patrol.
$90.64 sales tax.
$15 titling fee.
$9 plate fee.
$4 admin fee.
Now ... I will be the first to admit, Alan is not a patient man ... LOL ... my high school yearbook attributed me with the quote, "I want what I want, when I want it", but, I've learned that you have to be patient when dealing with the bureaucracy ... I just try really hard to remember what James said, "Consider it all Joy!" and in this case ... Through all this, I managed to keep "Don Quixote" in check. No windmills were damaged in this whole process.
Having said all that .... I'm still not very good at that (patience) .... Guess I'm a work in progress, but, I fear I shall never achieve my goal ... LOL.
I think i would send this report to the governor or somebody to let them know just how messed up their system is. This is totally ridiculous.

Who do you think set up the mess ... ... Unfortunately, we here on the Western Slope of the Rockies are governed by the liberal left on the Eastern Slope of the Rockies ... you know ... the academic socialists that reside in that sewer they lovingly call Denver .. and it's surrounding area's.
Here's a sample of the liberal cr$p that was actually put on this years ballot.
Should it be a requirement to be a US citizen to vote? - outcome, yes
Should we re introduce the grey wolf into the state? (it's only taken the state 40 or so years to control the population and prevent them from killing livestock) outcome, no
Should we allow the gaming towns in the state to be able to introduce new games and remove limits on individual bets, most revenue going to the colleges? outcome, no
Should all tobacco products, including vaping, be taxed at higher rates? (estimated a pack of cigarettes will now cost about $9-$11 each). outcome, yes (I actually agree with that, so if you are coming through Colorado, and smoke, chew or vape, bring lots of $$ or lots of product)
Should we abolish the electoral college vote in Colorado? (this would have to pass in every state and the house and senate and then signed by the President), outcome, yes
We actually elected Hickenloper to the senate ... ya know the guy who during the primaries (he ran for Pres) said he got bored with being Governor, would hate being a senator and was fined big for violating the "ethics laws" for using tax payer money to fund vacations to Europe. Also used federal money allocated for 911 projects to pay for his legal fees. We should just hand the government our wallets.
So I think you can see that anyone, leaning conservative, sending anything to the governor is a waste of time. But, as long as we on the Western Slope remain conservative and we don't have rioting over elections or whatever they protest now about (Denver has had rioting and looting since the elections, and our state went blue ... I still can't figure out what they are "protesting" about ... maybe it's just that we don't let them steal and destroy everything ) I guess I will stay here. But, I gotta admit, as I get older, I hate the snow and politics more and more.
I've considered a move to Texas, ya know for the weather and BBQ ... but it's much like here ... except they still have enough conservatives to keep the left in check ... much like Colorado was when I first moved here. It will be interesting to see if that too changes.
I am saving for an RV, thinking of becoming a full time RV'er and move it to Texas, or some other southern state. Become a snow bird. North in the summer, south in the winter ...
Thanks for letting me vent ... I needed that!!!
