    Default Starter Relay Replacement

    2005 Honda Goldwing with Champion Kit. I need to replace the A and B Starter Relays. I had done that previously on a 2004 and remember having to loosen the left saddle bag and remove the rear fender. Now having a trike I am faced with having to replace the relays on this. I still need to be able to access the back relay but there is no saddle bag to loosen or rear fender to remove.

    Has anyone had to replace the starter relays on a trike conversion?

    Suggestions would be appreciated.

    Robert, Welcome to Trike Talk from West Virginia.

    You will need to remove the left rear wheel and probably remove the reverse resistor to access the A & B solenoid. Be sure to secure them back into their rubber holders.

    seems this may be a common problem??

    generally bike solenoid are small.. so any time there is an issue i replace them with a ford style https://www.amazon.com/Ford-SW3-Star.../dp/B004PKC1YO

    probably 1/4 the cost and twice the amp capability

    On my 2006 GL1800 with Motor Trike kit I replaced the A&B solenoids. I think I had to remove the battery and battery box to make room to get to them.

    The relays came in from Partzilla and I installed them today. Fortunately it was not necessary to remove the left rear wheel. I removed the battery and battery box and was able to change out the two relays and after replacing them in the boots. It was necessary to recharge the battery. I installed the battery that was fully charged and attempted to start the trike and nothing, no noise at all. What do you think is going on?

    No, I did exercised it. Light went on and off but was off when I tried to start it.

    I know nothing about an 1800 but with that said have you tried squeezing the clutch lever while pressing the start button?Possibly something going on with the kickstand switch.

    Goldwing was converted to Champion Trike in 2005. No kickstand.

    and it wasn't triked. I have an 08 with csc kit don't look forward to that job. good luck
