Default Have a bastard stepchild creation!

Ok can’t find an actual place to post so I am just gonna shoot from the hip.

I have a 06 Yamaha Midnight Star 1700 with a Harley DNA trike kit installed by a local “reputable “ bike shop. It took them forever and they could never get the brakes right and just wrote it off and had me get it.

it has calipers with 2 pistons and my previous kit had single pistons. (I wrecked it and like an idiot bought it back. Previously it had a Champion kit).

can anyone give me a suggestion?

What exactly are you asking this time Gene?

You have already had several threads on this same trike with brake issues?

We have asked you to give us more and complete information so we can provide the best results for you. Each time you do come back with a bit more info, but not enough to help.

Pictures of your set up would be very helpful.

If there is insufficient pressure you may want to add a 'Residual Valve'.

In 1 of his many threads the trike in question had a residual valve. That set up did not work right either. The OP removed it and ran a new line to the rear brakes.

At the time of that post he reported not having a good pedal. It sounds like a master cylinder issue but we cannot be sure because the OP only gives bits and pieces of info. Way too hard to make a solid call on the problem.

Maybe switch back to the single piston caliper?

Ok I get a few comments but few people actually have advice. I stated I had bled from master, residual to the calipers. Recently I took it to another shop and they found there seemed to be the fender hitting the lines vibrating the banjos loose. That worked for a while but they worked loose again.

I bought some seals that are rubberized. Will be trying that when weather straightens out. I contacted DNA and was talking to tech and we was discussing single piston calipers when we got cut off. I can’t find them available on their site. Anyone with advice on that would be appreciated and also am looking for hub spacers (ones they put on at the other shop just have to be lined up then putting wheel up and bolted on) so how do I get the right ones?

Gene, Until you supply some pictures of your brake system, no one but you knows what you are dealing with. Pretty simple request given the amount of help that has been offered to you.

The pictures are sure to generate more questions but at least they will be based on this evidence.

Default What pictures do you need?

My brake system is really basic. Master cylinder that was originally on the CHAMPION kit. Goes back about to a Y splitter. It then goes to each wheel with about 18” steel beaded line. It then goes into single piston calipers. There is about 6 feet total lines. It has been to 3 shops where it has been bled, reverse bled and lines pressure tested.

just tell me what pics would come in handy or any other info I can give.

    thank you.

On reading the replies I have a few comments. 1. I have tried some form of the comments or the other. Bleeding, testing and rebuilding parts was done. The photos I can get (in my opinion) will really not give much more info than I have given already. About the only thing I can think of is maybe adding a braided line from the master to the split. Not sure it would make any difference.

anyways, whatever I can do for solutions I will attempt to get!

There is pedal but takes WAY too long to stop. If it is any help, there was some fair braking before a brake line (that was a little too short) broke. Since it has again been thru all procedures and with some pedal I get little response. Again I can get pictures if you feel it may be helpful but the info provided mostly covers the system. I bled and rebled then took it to a shop where it was reverse bled.

hell anyone know a person needing a 1700 Yamaha with a monstrosity rear end?

my guess is u dont have enough leverage if think 7 or 8 to 1 rings a bell on the leverage or the mc bore it too big..

I don’t understand what you mean. Leverage is confusing me. This is almost the exact same setup as with the Champion rear end. The wheels and rotors are smaller. What do you mean?

He is talking about the brake pedal leverage

There is a formula to figure out what the ratio should be

I have a old sportster with a dna rear end could not get the brakes to work for shit, I put several different residual valves on it I ended up with a 4 pound valve bolted right on the back of the master cylinder, The brakes were really hard to bleed had to lift up one side of the caliper to get them to bleed out, and its has duel calipers. before this it would have brakes after 3 4 pumps to get brakes. post a picture .

Check out this thread especially post #23: https://www.triketalk.com/forum/thre...ke+pedal+ratio

Found this explanation of brake pedal ratio: https://www.onallcylinders.com/2016/...e-pedal-ratio/

It might help you visualize the ratio thing.

Again, pictures of your setup would really help. We may be able to see a problem that you don't even realize exists.
