    Default Trailer size

Hi everyone I'm thinking of buying an enclosed trailer to haul my trike in. I'm thinking maybe 12x7 or 14x7 I would like to get some input from anyone that uses a trailer to haul their trike on size and even a good name brand. Thanks

We have a 7 x 12 single axle V-nose Express trailer, I wish I had gone for the dual axle. There's plenty of room to walk around the sides, front and rear.

You'll have to click the link, I can't get the picture to post for some reason.

I also have a 7x12 V nose. Side entry door also. Never felt the need for dual axle though. You have to watch loading & unloading as clearance is like 3" on each side, but doable. Rather than a dual axle, I did add brakes on the single. You are well below gross weight on a single with the Trike . I put a spare tire on the front left of the V-wall & built a shelf for misc. across the V. installed some D-rings & this Condor for the front wheel

Thanks for the replies. Looks like there is not a lot of extra room on the 7 foot thought once of doing 6 foot but there is no way that would work. Do you have any trouble getting the trike out of the Condor?

I always considered the Iron Horse the gold standard for motorcycle trailers. Expensive but worth it in my mind.

I use a condor on my open trailer. The tire does "lock in" which is what it's supposed to do. Definitely won't slide out on it's own but I do use a strap to secure the tire to it just in case. It takes a little effort to get out as the electric reverse on my Goldwing doesn't have a lot of power so you have to help it out with your legs. I assume that the TriGlides would be a little easier with a mechanical reverse.

As long as you follow the instructions for the front wheel set up,it works fine. Just put in reverse & tap the button. I had it for my 2 wheeler for hauling it to Florida in the winter. Had a hard time getting it out, read instructions again & there are diff settings for diff wheel size's.

Only other thing ,if you get a trailer built over the wheels, instead of exposed wheels. door opening will be wider. Didn't need to worry about with a 2 wheel.

Another thing I like with the Condor. The one pictured, if you need the trailer to haul something, 4 wing nuts & lift it off the floor & have full use of the trailer.

    Red face trailer

I have a 7x12 tandum axel by arising trailers all tube construction. There is plenty of room to load the trike. I use a pringle e track chock makes it very easy to remove and to put back in when i need it for something else. Make sure you have enough truck to pull it. My gmc canyon had a hard time in the mountains and across wyoming, traded for a serria 3.0 diesel when i got home works good now. It weighs about 3400 lbs loaded. Wind resistance is the worst.

I started with a 6x10 for a 2 wheeler. It was an enclosed v-nose, heavy duty ramp door with a beaver tail flap. I installed a Condor chock & e-trac. This worked great for the 2 wheeler. I used it for the Tri but it was very tight for me inside for tying down. Also the ramp door cables are the narrowest part and there was only about 1.5" on each side between the cables and the trike fenders. I put beveled 2x3s screwed to the ramp & floor as tire guides. Also split pool noodles and put them over the cables just in case.

Traded that trailer last year for a 7x12 compund v- nose, with hd ramp door with beaver tail flap, single torsion axle & dove tail. I put in my Condor & e-trac. I do not use the clam part of the Condor (too hard for me to pull out and afraid I might wreck the revers), I use 2 ratchet straps through the front wheel into e-tac pulling forward from the Condor.

The extra width on this trailer makes it much easier for me to load/unload. This trailer also has electric brakes.

I tie the rear down with 2 ratchet straps crossed over from the axle rings to e-trac pulling forward. I also put a ratchet strap from an eye bolt out side each rear wheel, through the wheel to e-trac pulling rearward. Probably over kill on the straps but that is just me, trike does not move and there is nothing pulling on the suspension at all. I used sheepskin tubes where the straps go through the wheels.

I upgraded the stock trailer tires to the next wt range up Goodyears. Hung e-trac on the walls & front for spare tire, jacks & other trailer stuff. The whole thing weighs in at just under 3500# loaded with about 390 - 400# on the tongue. I pull this with an F150.

Sorry for the long response, hope it helps & good luck.
    It is what it is.

I had a 6x12 tandem and never tried to put the trike in it. Just from measuring it was way too close for me. I sold it and ordered a new one the way I wanted. It is a Car Mate. Made in PA. 7x12 v nose, tandem axel, cross members 16" on center, brakes on both axels, plenty of room. I still use the wheel dock chock that I did with the 2 wheeler. I did get 6 inches extra height for hauling other stuff. Couldn't be happier. When we go to Daytona I can leave it hooked to the truck at the motel and put it in the trailer each night.

Thanks everyone it sounds like 12x7 is the most popular size. I think I will look into that size. Just have decide if I want single or tandem axle. Looks like most single axle have the floor supports 24” on center and tandem are 16” on center. Can the people that have the single axle chime in does the 24” seem solid enough for the trike.

You can get 16" centers on the single axle. I just told the builder what I wanted when I ordered the trailer. Single is less weight to pull. & if that is all you will haul, why a double. Also, take into consideration ,what, you have to pull it with.

Only difference in weight is one axle and two tires and wheels. It will track and handle much better with two axles. If the weight of one axle with tires and wheels makes that much difference while towing, I’d say you need to upgrade your tow vehicle.

Mine is a Bravo Scout. 16" oc. The main frame is 6" with the rear 2' cut down to 4". This creates the dove tail which is like a ramp extension. Make sure you get a 1500# rating for your ramp door, you want to ride your trike in & out. Most standard ramp doors are rated for less wt. I also have the stabilizer jacks at the rear so I can drop them, block the wheels good and load/unload without being hooked the the truck.
    It is what it is.

    Default Maybe Look at Legend

The Tri Glide fits nicely in a Legend 6.5 x 12 V-Nose in low profile. Mine is double axle which is a bit of overkill but flat tires

are not much of an issue. Something to consider is dual axle trailers can be difficult to move around without your tow vehicle.

I have a hitch on a garden tractor that is mounted high enough so only rear wheels are rolling. Width helps with rear view if towing with

a mid size SUV or truck.
