Road Dog I agree. I have been a automotive design engineer for 34 years. I have worked on the designs of suspensions, exhaust systems, interior trim components and exterior sheet metal parts. The tolerance between exhaust systems, suspensions and chassis components can range from 6.0mm to 12.0mm. Thats why I chose the Legend lift kit to get the full 1 1/2" lift.

I guess I am still confused.

If one does not mind putting a spacer in there, creating an additional stress on the exhaust system, why not add spacers to the Convertible Comfort Lift™.

Result would be a 1.25" lift, the benefit of the additional angle for better shock articulation (improved comfort), and a $100 savings.

If I take the bolts out of my mufflers they will hang down at least a 1/2 inch , I have to push the mufflers up to catch the bolts .so I am really confused ? I don't see how a 1/4 inch washer can put thet kind of stress on the exhaust system that it will crack & leek ? Maybe do a test and video to show the stress and damage that may result from all of that stress ??

    Hi Kevin

I made apparent the reason why I felt that the 1/4 spacer wasn't a problem in my last post. After helping to design and engineer exhaust systems, suspensions and then seeing these systems tested for more then 100,000 miles on both cars and trucks, I feel that there is more then enough tolerance between mating components to allow for the mufflers to be dropped 1/4".

I understand that you are trying to both defend and sell the items that DK customs produce. The person who started this thread asked for different ideas for lift kits. I gave him the one that I choose and why i went with it. Apparently i stepped on your toes. The reason I say this is because of the passive aggressive rude and demeaning comments that you have directed toward me about my decision of Legend products. Example: "any thing is better then stock". I even pointed out this out in my response and you choose to ignore that and continue to make belittling comments.

The main reason I went with Legends lift kit and shocks had nothing to do with the extra 1/4" of lift. It was the way I was treated when I called and tried to ask some questions about your set up. The person was both rude and down right condescending . I decided if this is how I was being treated before I purchased something that it would only be worse if there was any issues with your products you sold me.

I never had any intentions of bringing up how I was treated when calling your company when I first responded to this thread. Given your disrespectful comments toward me I decide to tell my full story. All I wanted was to simply tell the author what lift kit I purchased. Apparently you choose to to take this as some kind of attack on DK Customs given how you have chosen to respond to me. I thought this an open forum for people to give their opinions with out being degraded for their choices and ideas. I didn't know that it had to be "all DK Customs all the time". I feel this way, given the fact, that you have done your best to try and "shame " me for not choosing your products. This is why I am bringing up how I was treated by your employee and the real reason I choose Legend products over DK Custom products.

I know that you are a sponsor of this site. I know that money talks, and because of this, I know that that my response will soon be deleted . Probably my account will also be deleted. I don't care. I will not be shamed or bullied for my beliefs and decisions.

    dthorn,

Post what you want, if I feel it goes too far, I will address it fairly with you privately. Forums grow and thrive when different views and opinions are allowed to be openly expressed, we all learn from one another's experiences. I agree with the logic on some of your technical points and I don't disagree that anyone should be allowed to post their experiences with any brand or product. If you want to stay, read and contribute, fine. If you want to take the position that we have some secrete agenda, which we don't, then feel free to move on. I do encourage thinking for one's self and applying logic. We can agree to disagree and learn from one another, its all good.

    Now carry on.

Just like your pipes hang down 1/2", some are naturally tilted up against the hangers.

As has been pointed out, there are great variances. Each bike/trike is a bit different.

We have seen most headers on the right side (not all) slightly pointed up. Which means if the slip-on muffler is put directly on the header that it will be tilted up and have to be pushed down to get below the hanger.

This creates the opportunity for the slip fit of the muffler and header to develop a leak...and over time for there to be some fatigue. Is this catastrophic? No. But as I mentioned Legend is a solid USA company and I found it surprising that they chose to deal with the change Harley made in their exhaust this way.

    Hi David,

Just saw your post this afternoon.

I am so sorry that you did not have a great experience when calling our Customer Service Team. We have Three Equal Top Priorities, and one of them is to provide Superior Customer Service. That you did not get that is not acceptable and I appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

If I could ask a favor, could you please email me at Kevin@DKCustomProducts.com and let me know who you spoke to? If you don't remember their name, male or female?

    I would truly appreciate it.

Regarding my post, please accept my apologies for not communicating more clearly.

I have a lot of respect for the company Legend Suspension, and I am truly surprised at their approach...it is not horrible, it just does not match up with their well earned reputation.

I also did not mean in any way to belittle you or your decisions. I was truly perplexed...but now I understand. We dropped the ball when you called. I know it will not help you, but I will be working on that so others do not have your experience.

Again, I am very sorry for the poor experience you have had with DK Custom, both with the call in, and with my post here. That is the exact opposite of how we want to conduct ourselves. Please accept my apologies, and know that we are constantly working at improving.

Because this is obviously not a lighthearted thead, this is a informational tech oriented thread that I want to stay on topic and get some questions resolved. If a post is removed, don't make another post asking why it was removed. If you have a question about that, PM me.

    Default Move On.

Well as the old saying goes, "I don't have a dog in this hunt".

However, I think this was caused simply by how several posters interpreted this sentence in Kevin's post " Glad you're enjoying your setup...almost anything is better than stock and 0ne day Harley may finally get it right from the factory."

My thought, when I read it, was he was saying he was glad he was enjoying his Legend setup, BUT that anything was better than the stock and hoping HD might do better up the road. I never saw it as a negative comment about the Legend product. I thought he meant just that, anything anybody does to help the suspension makes it better than stock.

BTW Merry Christmas and Happy new year.

Default Lift kit with Super Shox

Yikes, what an interesting thread. At least it was not on FB or Twitter so they can't censor it Good call Papa Zook. I think sometimes it better to talk in person than with a forum or email. We all interpret what we read differently.

Now my question, has anyone installed the 14 1/2" Super Shox with either DK's or Legend? They say (others in this forum not the manufactures of Super Shox) you don't need a lift kit but I installed the Shox and only got 1/2" of lift.

    Anyone tried this?

This thread has been a real interesting one that has taken a few dramatic turns IMO. It does have merit and value for those looking for info on suspension systems.

    Default Good grief

I love to hear different guys ideas of how to do things. So a guy wholeheartedly apologizes for any miss interpretation of what he said. Tries overwhelmingly to correct the situation. And still gets thrown under the bus. Amazing!

I have read this along with other posts about the tri glide suspension. They are all very informative. I have a 2016 Tri glide UC and definitely want to do something about the ride and to help stop my wife from going "umph" every time I hit a bump, Lol. I have done some research on the @DK Custom Products rear suspension and comfort lift kit. I have also seen that headlight adjustment is needed, to the point of maximum adjustment, when installing this kit which makes sense with my knowledge and experience with modding cars and trucks.

My question is: Which front suspension kit will work well with the 14" rear kit to either mitigate or reduce the amount of headlight adjustment needed? The main headlight really is a none issue but readjusting the passing lamps is somewhat more difficult.

Thanks in advance for the reply.
2016 Tri Glide, More DK than HD. Just shut up and ride.

My experience I washered the headlight to get the adjustment needed. Also I switched to a Pro Action springer and valve kit. However George is in the process of upgrading those as well I love the handling from rear Pro Action shocks and the fork kit occasionally I get a little noise George is working to remedy that

Would you explain how you washered the headlight to get more adjustment please?

remove the cover ring and head light mount place washers behind headlight bucket on my old 09 it was simple. I can't say about newer versions. Possibly someone can chime in about them. You can almost get it adjusted without washers, well at least mine was. Good luck Fred
