Kerrville Ride 2021

Was looking forward to a great ride today when I was taken aback when the ride leader, Jerry, approached me and said they'd wait for me at turns. I asked what's this about and his reply was he'd been told I was a slow rider. Now I'm not a hot dog by any means but I've never been called a slow rider.

Guess it started yesterday when the ride leader Pat told us there were hardly any traffic lights until we got to Llano so we could spread out but in Llano would need to tighten it up. OK sounds reasonable. I was second in line right behind Pat and ran maybe 5 or 6 seconds behind on the highway as the wife and I were enjoying the scenery. At the first stop Pat asked me if I could keep up. Huh? What's that about? Anyway I made it a priority from then on to stay within 2 to no more than 3 seconds behind him. There were 11 bikes on the ride and throughout the day the person behind me changed a couple times. I kept a close watch in my mirrors and I was always much closer to Pat then the guy behind was to me.

Now this morning I subsequently learned from my wife that Dennis, who I think was the sweep yesterday, informed Jerry that he was going to have a problem with the guy on that trike because he rides super slow, held us up yesterday and Pat had to talk to him. He was referring to me. What he didn't know is that my wife was standing nearby and heard the conversation as Dennis not only told Jerry but proceeded to tell all the others who were nearby.

So we pulled out of the line and loaded up heading out. Going to Fredericksburg today to do some things the wife has on her agenda and then heading home.

I am sorry that you misinterpreted my intentions when I asked you to keep up. I did so at the request of others in the group and I never gave it another thought after we spoke. Obviously, you did and I wish you had confronted me at that time rather than in a post.

I certainly didn't know what was going on this morning and certainly I can't control what other people say. If I had a on going problem with you I am certainly man enough to speak to you face to face. Since you feel this way, I understand your not wishing to ride with me again, although you would be most welcome. Should we not meet again, I wish you safe travels.

Sorry you felt unwelcome. We winter in TX, but leave in March, so I have never been to a Kerrville event. But I have ridden with many of the organizers. They are all good guys. They probably didn't know they offended you. They just want to keep the group together.

For several years, I have been the ride captain at our Maggie Valley event. Some times its like herding cats but we always have a good time. It's difficult to keep a group together with red lights, stop signs and impatient cagers. Any one not keeping up, makes it harder. I suppose someone won't like my style of leading. Some will never be satisfied. The newer generation is offended by every thing and it rubs off on every one else. We need to get over it. Don't go away mad. Its not personal! We are all different.

You drove a long way. It's the way you handle it that makes it a good or bad time.

I don't often ride with other groups that go too fast, don't take butt breaks, always take the express ways and stop at all the Harley shops but I always try to keep up, no matter how difficult because as part of the group, its our duty to keep up. I have noticed that those behind me, always seem further away than those ahead of me, because our small mirrors distort distance.

Well said! I don't want to keep this going. But the bottom-line we were not speeding thru. I kept the speed down to 5mph below the speed limit, never went above. Going 15 to 20 mph below the speed limit for someone to catch up is unacceptable. At no time were we speeding! One individual has a issue out of approximately 20. Did not bring his grievance to me face to face and wants air it out in this forum.

Well, ya can't please everyone. It's a GROUP ride. Have followed Pat several times & always a great ride, no issues. Just wished we were there this time. Now have 2 of the house projects done , one to go. 30 yr shingles aren't always 30 yr. . House is only 13 yr & have had several come off at diff times. So insurance got us a new roof. (Thanks Jim Palmer) At least it was done before the painting ( I never liked the color, but I did the house), so I wanted it painted. One more week for that . Then we start riding again. Anyone keeping Jr. on the straight & narrow ???

Glad, you projects are coming along without hiccups. Jr. didn't make it to the rally. Lola and I spoke with him to make sure he was OK. He stated that it was raining hard where he lives and was just too cold for him to start out riding. Told him we sure do miss Darlene and him. Says he'll make it the next go around.

Glad that you having a good time! Drop more pics if you have them!

Pat, we're "new" to TrikeTalk, and new to posting pics on a public forum.... Not sure what the etiquette is about posting ride pics that show people when you haven't asked their permission first, just don't want to offend anyone....

We are very appreciative of being invited to ride this wonderful area here and the great guide service!!!!

Chuck
