Thread: Question about body mounts.

    Default Question about body mounts.

    Removed the body from my 17 Tri Glide today and i noticed that the two bolts inside the trunk at the top, one holds the ground strap they were tight but the flat washer would just barely spin is this by design? My neighbor is painting a guys 14 Tri Glide and he said his were the same, so if you know the answer( no guessing please lol) and i do have a trike supplement manual for torque specs. It will be a couple weeks before i reassemble waiting on DK axle plates ,just put the Pro Action 14 inch shocks on and cant wait to see how much difference they make.

    Mine were tight flat washer then nut ground strap washer and lock nut.

    Steve I hope my response helped with the ground strap issue, I might be a source of a squeak or two. Check the supplement for torque Lbs. As far as the shocks are concerned you will be very pleased with the ride if they were pre-set you may not have to adjust them at all. If you feel you need to after you ride for a while read and follow the instructions they are spot on for directions. Have a Happy New Year!!!!

    Yes your response was very helpful, it just seemed odd that my neighbor said the ones on the 14 he is painting were the same. So while the body is off i will run a tap in the holes to make sure they are clear, and as far as the shocks are concerned yes i had them ordered to our weight and luggage requirements so i am hoping for a much better ride.

    The stud was screwed tight and the ground strap was tight. My guess is that the ground stud was bottomed out in the thread but the thread in the frame was tapped just a little shallow,so the ground strap was grounded but the big washer that goes against the body would spin but it wasnt sloppy loose. So i retapped the holes with a flat bottom tap so the bolts should draw the body tight now.

    Steve an extra washer would most likely accomplish the same result be sure to lock tite the body bolts all of them. Good work Fred
