2006 GL1800 Right Switch Gear Replacement

Good Morning and Happy New Year !!

I've been having some trouble with the right switch gear assembly on my 2006 GL1800. First there is a short in the cruise control button. If you even bump it the bike will hesitate and lose the heated grips and seat. Like a miss fire but the bike restarts and continues fine. Weird. Also the reverse button stuck on me a while ago and it took a bit to get it to disengage. So I have been just leaving the cruise on all the time and have not even tried to use the reverse. Thankfully I haven't needed to use it.

So I am wondering how hard it is to replace the right switchgear pod on the handlebar ? I know the throttle cables are involved and while not totally inept I am inexperienced with messing with the cables and buttons and such. I know some people dismantle the switches and clean and re-grease them but the last time I tried that with my hazard switch I ended up losing the spring. I have fat finger syndrome.

This is an issue that is common to all honda motorcycles I have owned (6). you do not have to disassemble the individual switches... you have to remove the pod so you can get at the switches....then using an electronic parts cleaner spray them liberally while working the switches....the when they are working correctly again spray them with silicone lube,,, NOT WD-40......then reassemble the pod and you should be good for another 10 years or so....

this is the third post I have made tonite regarding these switches.... you do not have to replace them.... just clean a lube them.... there is the odd chance that the switch contacts are burned... and if that is the case you can disassemble the switch and clean the contacts.. but that is a bit tricky...
