Yup, I got kicked out of 10th grade for wearing bell bottom jeans
Half way thru my junior year ('66) my school came up with this brilliant idea of a dress code. Boys had to tuck their shirts in, wear a belt and socks.
By the time I was a senior I'd had just about enough of this garbage. One day I saw a gizmo on Moms sewing machine table and asked what it was? Mom said it was a 'seam ripper'. If it would rip out seams I figured it would work great on belt loops. And it did. With no more belt loops I couldn't very well wear a belt. Then belt loops begin disappearing all over school.
Later on, Mom bought me a shirt that had a tailored bottom, designed to be worn outside of the pants. Of course, this attracted the attention of the dean of students and he called me down for it. I just told him: "When you start buying my clothes then you can tell me how to wear them". Nothing more was said about shirts with tailored bottoms.
Then came the ultimate smart-ass kid act of defiance. The school big-wigs decided that boys would have to stand (instead of sit) in detention after school. So all the boys stood up except me. The teacher in charge called me on it and I said "I'm not standing". She said "Go to the principals office". Figured this was going to lead to "swats", but I was going to stand tall. When I got to the principals office he was gone for the day so I just walked out, got in my car and drove to the local hang out. Never heard another word about it.
Did your school have goofy rules like these?

I attended 2 different high schools over that 4 year period. Both of those schools MAY have had a dress code--- I don't remember as I wasn't wearing DRESSES!
I don't remember anything specific about boys dress code. I think everyone was dressed appropriately......shoes with sox, shirts tucked in and no T-shirts. We (the boys) all wore long pants (no shorts) that were well taken care of (no rips or holes). The girls all wore dresses or skirts. If they got on their knees, the skirt or dress had to touch the ground. Otherwise it was too short and grounds to be sent home. We didn't have any uniforms but pier pressure and the vice-principal kept us all well dressed.
Between my Junior and Senior years I worked at a ranch doing what cowboys do. I grew a beard that summer and came to school the first day with it. I don't remember anything being said about it. I think it was just a distraction that brought unwanted glares. The second day of school the beard was gone and life got back to normal..... Jim

Mini skirts ,bell bottoms jeans, long hair on boys beards, floppy hippie hats, tie dyed shirts, sandals were all ok in my high school. Class of 71 here.
The first 3 years no pants for the girls, all dresses or skirts and they could not be higher than the knee. The guys had to wear a belt, shirt tucked in, and their hair could not touch their shirt collar, and no facial hair.
My senior year things changed... girls could wear slacks; if dresses/skirts they could be not more than 2" above the knee. Seems like the guys could wear their hair a little longer plus reasonable sideburns...don't remember what else.... senior year 1971.

No jeans no t shirts. And we didn't call them jeans. We called them dungarees. Now there were some kids that were pretty poor. They wore what they had and that was that. Nobody would call them out on it. Teachers or students.
My school must've had a dress code... I was expelled fer wearin' one
Catholic High School, we wore khaki uniforms, no girls, shined belt buckles and shoes, Episcopal high school pants shirt tucked in or tailored, Baptist school, jeans shirts in or out dresses/skirts for girls but some were a little short no grunge. Graduated 1964. I don't remember a written dress code except for Jesuits.

High school. The uniform of the day for boys was jeans, button down shirts, and boat shoes. Girls had to wear dresses, pants were not allowed. One night, at the local hangout, a sizable group of us boys came up with the idea of dying a white sweat shirt, white pants, white socks, and white shoes one color, each of us to choose a different color, and show up to school on a certain day. We did so and all were all rounded up and suspended for the day. Not to take this abuse lightly, we called the local newspaper who sent a reporter and photographer to meet with us the local hangout. The afternoon newspaper featured us in full color on the front page. We became known as the Rainbow Boys.
Pants had to be below the knee and skirts 2 or 3 in above the knee.T shirt and jeans ok.No "inappropriate" print or advertising.
