E15 gas????????

Ethanol is a bad choice for our bikes IMO

  • Reduced performance and mileage, since ethanol has one-third less energy than pure gasoline
  • Absorption of water, further reducing fuel efficiency and potentially resulting in phase separation
  • Increased engine and exhaust system temperature, since ethanol leans out the fuel/air mixture
  • Corrosion of metal parts in the fuel system
  • Damage to fuel lines and gaskets

EPA has not approved E15 for motorcycles or many 4 wheeled motor vehicles. You may/will probably see a reduction in gas mileage. I had an Evo Softail that I ran for 10 years on E10 87 octane. Almost always got somewhere between 43 to 47 mpg. I did ride a lot so the gas was always fresh. When I knew that I was not going to be riding for awhile, I used Stabil in the tank. Never had any issues. Tore my carb down at 10 years and found no issues with gaskets or any internals. Spark plugs always looked good. Never had a lack of power. Some people (farmers) claim that it runs cooler than gas. That I do not know. I do know that the new state motto for Iowa should be "If you don't run on corn, this state ain't for you"

Thats not any new' News...That was also said about E10.....And to be honest about it i never had a problem with E 10.......But then again i use my vehicles i don't let them sit ....And if a machine has to sit like a snowblower in the summer , Or a mower in the winter i fill the gas tank to the top and ''Don't turn the gas valve off so the Carburetor doesn't dry out....If/when a carburetor drys up that when the problems with hard starting and running rough begin......

I wouldn't run it but that is me, I won't run ethanol either, but I might have to some time, getting hard to find premium around here, hope the ones that do keep it that way, the one station I went to all the time put ethanol in their premium and so had to find another place, I called the company about it and they said if doesn't sell well they will go back to it but so far a no go, and that was 2 years ago. I don't travel so to speak but if I did I would have to use the ethanol brand since it is a higher octane that regular

All for now Trampas

Dump in additives...

I've been medicating old Shiney for over seven years now I run 93 octane with 360 performance and I've had not one problem. Ethanol free is available in places but spotty around here. So I just stick to my habit of carrying Stabil 360 performance about an ounce per fill up. seems to do the trick. :good: travel safe Fred

I believe that there were some who experimented with e85 on harleys. Again if memory(crs) serves me they had to go way up on the jet sizing for carbs and larger injectors for the later models, along with some real timing changes. Eventually they got the bikes running pretty good, but it just wasn’t worth the costs vs what they gained.

A little off topic, sorry.

Not at all good information thank you, who knows what is ahead for us in fuel.:good: Ride safe Fred

Are these newer vehicles that say Flex Fuel supposed to be able to use that junk? Wonder just how much poorer the fuel mileage would be then if they can.

I think the reduction in mpg is about 25 percent. I think alcohol has quite a bit less energy than gas.

Ethanol does not have the energy output of 100% gasoline. If you are running E85, you will definitely see a big reduction in your mileage. Depending on if the E85 is actually 85% ethanol. Up to a couple years ago some of what was being marketed as E85 would have been more correctly advertised as E70. At this time, with the price of corn being over $5 a bushel the production of ethanol is on a downward slide. Just need to keep corn prices up.:D

And that should happen with Biden shutting down that Canadian pipeline project. We are back to a downward spiral in the economy thanks to these short-sighted moves he's doing. But he have more liberal voters too to keep it that way by opening to border with zero vetting. When does the first caravan arrive???

We will never know the socialist propaganda will keep us distracted with a sports event or fabricate something that suits the purpose for all of the sheep... Pray for America. Fred

Sorry I gotta stop ranting about Communism even though that is what they Chinese want...

Now we're back to being dependent on foreign oil again - we were energy independent - welcome to the New United Socialist Republic.

Can we last for 2 years until the people come to their senses and vote all the libs out of congress?????

God help the US of A

Very doubtful any will get voted out. Opening the border almost assures more liberal voters.
