Over The Pond Differentials.....

Hi, I have only recently joined you all on here, but, I am as keen as mustard to get into it all, however, I keep coming up against the differences between our nations. One in particular that I hold close to my heart for some reason or other is......

I was searching through the threads on here as I do quite a bit, and I came across a 'Random Picture' thread that showed a Bull Bison in all his glory. Up until a few years ago, despite my age, I had never actually seen a 'live' Bison, even in a zoo or whatever. I used to be into Muzzle Loading as far as a Brit could be, and invested in a Hawken .50cal smoothbore for my sins.... I picked up a spare gun magazine at a gun club range a few miles away from here, and when I read through it, I found an advert for a Bed & Breakfast place near a town called Melton Mowbray. It was sited on a farm that specialised in Bison, and Red Deer. This is where the differences showed up. My wife and I stayed there for a couple of nights, and although they were all behind serious fencing, I was inches away from huge Bulls, and about 180 females and young. From never seeing one live, and then placed in an entire herd was a special thrill for me. I follow a few Bison farms over there in America on the web, and enjoy them tremendously. I envy you the thrill of seeing them romping around 'live', I guess a similar thrill could be Kangaroo's though, but just saying'.......!!!!

The beauty of South Dakota is they are not behind fences, this year while on the wildlife we encountered a herd of about 25 maybe 50 feet off the road. We stopped and took pictures as long as you dont try and approach them or get close to a young Bison they pay no attention to you or the bikes.

Hi, I envy you the ability to just go see, and have a peer at these magnificent beasts. I subscribe for my sins to a Youtube site called 'Cross Timber Bisons', I think he is somewhere in Oklahoma. His is a small herd, and just purchased a second bull called 'Big Joe'. Watching him trying to get him into the chute is an experience, huge great thing that is so obstinate..... I love it all, it drives the wife crazy when I get obsessed over something....!!!!!

This guy must be new to the bovine industry. Once an animal has seen a trap they will remember it. Once they know they can escape a trap they will continue to escape. Thin pipe corral system won't hold a yearling back let alone a full grown animal. Rookie I guess or one very naive dude.
