Too Cold for me to ride!

We never got above 0* today. I think I heard on the news this morning that there were weather warnings of some sort in 47 states. Strange weather. Stay safe!!

It snowed in Arizona of all places, even to the point where they had to close the interstate highway. So much for "dry heat".

When I was in my early 20s, I was working for a retail chain as a trouble shooter, firing and replacing bad managers. My car was damaged in an accident and was fighting insurance to get it repaired, so I only had my Bridgestone 175 for transportation. I got asked on Easter Sunday to go to another store 75 miles away. It had been pretty warm so I said okay. Got up at six to 20º and everything covered with ice and sleet. All I had was long johns under dress pants and shirt with dress shoes and a leather jacket. It took 4 hours to go the 75 miles. I got to the motel and ran it out of hot water, trying to thaw out in the shower. I was shaking so bad, I could hardly walk to the store. I was still shaking when I returned to the motel 6 hours later and ran it out of water again. I was still shaking the next morning and most of the day. It took almost a week before my knees returned to normal. Hypothermia wasn't even invented back then, but I'm sure I had it.

Now, don't be spreading stories! If you're talking about the Flagstaff area, it's at 7,000 feet. Here in the valley it got to 67F at my house today. Still cold for us though..... Jim

I wondered where he was. Flag is no stranger to closed interstate. Been snowed in there more than once,when driving truck. Course that was over 20 yrs ago. Before Global Warming. lol

Don't use salt as an excuse. Just say it's too cold for you. S100 makes a GREAT product for the white stuff. Spray it on all the metal in November and wash it off in April. Don't even have to buff if you don't want to - I don't. I've been using it for over 15 years and have had no rust or corrosion on any of my bikes and I ride every winter in the Chicago area.

So, if salt is the ONLY reason people won't ride in the winter - just get some S100 Corrosion Protectant. Don't buy the H-D crap, it doesn't work for shit - I learned that the hard way one year.

Back when I was young and "smart" I use to put my bike up for the winter. Then in 1988 when I wisened up and bought my first Harley, I asked myself why am I paying $10K (now $35K) for a bike and then storing it for 6 months every year? That's stupid. So I bought some heated gear (gloves at first) and ride all year and not be a bit cold. Besides I get a kick from the looks I get from drivers and restaurant owners.

I was born in Canada so these wimpy 30* temps are nothing.

In the meantime stay safe (wear a mask) and warm and I'll see you on the road in April.

200+ inches of snow might be another factor. our snow dont melt between storm like the banana belt.

I know exactly what you just described. Been there done that - once!!!

I'm down here in Surprise where it's in the mid 60s. It just sounds funny, snow in AZ.

We are having pretty normal weather here in Arizona. But, I have been reading about what some of you are experiencing. Rolling power outages, snow and ice where it's not supposed to be, treacherous driving conditions, and down right dangerous cold! Please stay safe and warm. You are in my thoughts and prayers..... Well, it has not gotten any better here.

They are saying 1 degree here tonight. Been here 30 years and don't remember it getting that cold before.

Took the Tri Glide out this morning for a little snow ride.



I've ridden plenty in the snow before...but this was not snow. (see video below) It was more like a slushy or Icee...more ice than snow. Had very little control, so did not go far.

Check out how the front tire...

17 degrees here today, and really icy...so no doing the stuff in the video below today.

..And people laughed at me when I bought a snow shovel at an estate sale a couple of months ago... looked brand new ...$6.50. Has come in really handy today...thank you very much..

Gheesh...thought I left all this behind when I moved from west Texas to Kerrville...growing up in San Antonio we never saw anything close to this
