    Default Front Tire and Bearings

Has anyone had a problem with one side of the front tire wearing more than the other? My right is wearing more than the left. If you did, what did you do to fix it? Also, is there one vendor that you can purchase all the parts to rebuild the front wheel bearings and seals? I have my front tire off to replace the tire and I figure I might as well rebuild it. Am I wasting my time with only 52000 miles on the trike? Thx Rick

Rick, I expect that your triple tree bearing might need replacing also. If the trees are offset then the tire will wear on the edge. Several have rebuilt the front ends and I also have posted part numbers etc on both the trees and the front end. Others have posted as well. No there is not a single source for hardly anything on the Stallion. SOME custom parts are still available thru TBMS but you have to find a MOTOR TRIKE dealer willing to order the parts for you and have them shipped to you. I have used R & R Trikes in Jasper Ga.

My wifes has 110k miles on hers and I'm not having problems keeping it ridable. The front rebuild is a bit of work but doable my most of us garage wrenchers. Good Luck

Thanks Ted. I have a bearing store that I use out here that can order all the bearings and seals for me. They only have one of the seals they stock. They'll have everything in a few days. Do you have a link for the triple tree info. I tried a search for a thread or post for them, but nothing came up. Thx Rick

I just got home from work and tried to see if the forks were loose. I yanked on them, twisted them every which way and didn't get any movement out of them. The trike tracts straight down the road at all speeds, even up into the triple digits. I think the triple tree bearings are probably still in good shape. Rick

Rick, I had that problem with mine a few years ago. TBMS sent me a procedure to correct it, but it did not work. I ended up taking it to the factory in 2013 and they replaced the forks and wheel hubs, but not the head bearings. Their fix corrected the problem. I replaced the head bearings about three years ago. While I had it apart, I installed a grease fitting on the head. No more problem with tires wearing on one side.

    Here ya go Rick:

The Stallion takes the same head bearings as the GoldWing 1500. Just do a search for allballs bearings for GoldWing 1500.

That was the kit I installed about three years ago. They are NOT ball bearings as the name implies, but tapered roller.

Finally got it done. Installed a Michelin Defender on the front and put Ride-On balancing beads and tire seal in it. The left side inside bearing was shot. The bearings were just rolling around inside and all three other sealed bearings were very dry and scraping when you spun the caliber mounting plate around. No, I do not power wash the trike. I got a lot of experience taking the tire on and off because, in my haste last night, I didn't notice I installed the tire backwards until I started mounting the brakes. Oh well, I needed the practice again. It's been 35000 miles since I had the front end apart. The sealed bearings weren't cheap. $82.00 each for the good Chinese ones. I've been dealing with this local supplier for about 15 years and these were the ones he suggested. All 6 bearings and 4 seals was $488.00. Wow, I hope they last longer than the original ones. Took it on a 180 mile breakfast ride this morning up into the mountains and back and the hubs were barely warm when I got back.

p.s. Thanks for the suggestion about grinding the ends of the axle. It made getting it in very easy. I put it through the wheel first and left one side flush with the bearing. Installed the swing arm on one side slipping the axle all the way through until the axle was even on the other side, swung up that swing arm and slid the axle through it. Made installing it very easy and I know I didn't do and damage to the bearings and seals.

I just replaced the two rear tires with the same Michelin Defender that I have on the front. 90,000 mile warranty tires. The only problem was that Michelin doesn't make a Defender in 225-60-18. I went with a 235-60-18 and it fit fine. The one good thing is that now the speed indicator reads within 1/2 mph of the GPS. It used to be about 2 mph high. I also checked the brakes while the tires were off. The front pads looked almost new and the rear pads had at least 25-30000 miles left on them at 52000 miles. Most of my riding is on the highway.
