New Trike Owner and First Post

Hi, from S.D., but currently in Lompoc CA. Bought my new 2011 TG, Jan 3rd, from Henderson HD NV. Two weeks later, took it back to dealer, with an oil leak problem (engine only had 334 miles on it), and the rear brakes pulling to the right. Went home expecting to have the TG back that afternoon. Dealership called me about 3hrs later asking me to come by, so I did thinking I was going to pick it up. When I got there the service manager met me and took me back to the service area to show me the TG, sans engine! He showed me pinholes in the engine casing, where the metal didn't seal properly when casted. He said they had already ordered a new engine from the motor company, and that it would be two to three weeks before I got my TG back!

Needless to say I was bummed. However, 5 days later the dealership called me, asking if I was ready to pickup my trike! I met with the service manager, he showed me that the VIN, numbers matched the orginal engine, and the old engine case destroyed.

Brakes work fine, engine runs great, no problems. Impressed with the dealership, the Motor Company, how they stepped up replaced the engine no questions asked, and how they got it back to me so quick! Did some research and have not found another single incident where this was a problem with the 103, was just a fluke it seems.

Glad to be here, and hope to me some of you in person someday.
Have only been to Yankton S.D. when I picked up my VW Trike last Sept. some beautiful country up there I was just sorry I didn't have enough time to see more.

Hi Danny. Welcome to TrikeTalk! We hope to meet you someday soon too .
Thanks for the great report on the dealership...... what a great service manager! He got on it right away!!!

Had the exact same thing happen on the very first bike I ever bought (back in1967).
A brand new Triumph Bonneville.

Arrived at home(35mile ride) to find the entire lower front of the motor and my new boots covered w/oil.
Leak (after 4 trips back to dealer) turned out to be a hole in the engine case at the base of where one of the push rod tubes attached.

Wonder where HD engine cases come from these days?

Welcome from the Great State of Texas! Glad you got your problem fixed - hope it's happy trails from now on . . . come meet some of us in Maggie Valley, NC, the last weekend in June at our fourth annual Rally in the Valley!
Welcome to the world of triking. in 2009 I was in Vegas visiting Sis-in-law and had 90,000 service done on 2-wheel ride at Henderson H-D. last year flew out there and talked to service manager about 3-wheels and he showed me specifics I was interested in on a used trike he had bought for himself that was up on a lift. all in all, a nice place.

:wave4: Welcome to the forum Danny! Glad you had a favorable outcome with your problem. Heres wishing you many trouble free miles of riding ahead:yes:
