    Default Any concerns with a 1995 Electra Glide Frankenstein conversion?

    Hello everyone,

    Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the forum. I am thinking about purchasing a 1995 Electra Glide (FLHTP Police Bike) with 34k miles, for $4,000. The bike is carbureted, but I’m not too concerned with that.

    I see that the Frankenstein conversion (premium package) is about $8000, so I’d have about $12,000 in it when done.

    I saw someone here on the forum mention in an older post that the “gearing on older Harley’s is not ideal for a trike conversion”. Is this a serious issue? I don’t expect to be running on the freeways at 75+ mph, if that is the problem.

    I’m pretty sure that the absence of a reverse gear will be a minor annoyance, so that shouldn’t bother me too much.

    Any input, thoughts, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated before I pull the trigger. The only part of the premium kit that concerns me is the exhaust, not knowing what it sounds like. Thanks again!

    Aaron, Welcome to Trike Talk from West Virginia.

    The EVO is known to be down on top end highway speed compared to the TC88 but you can still get more mid-range power and torque by simple cam change and exhaust choices. Of course mileage will suffer unless you bump up the compression. A gearing change will help on the flat but then puts a further load on the engine (run hot) and going the other way will run the engine at more RPM's.

    Look at cams/exhaust systems and upgrading the heads.

    Champion conversion on my 98 ultra. Bone stock Evo motor. No problem running 80-90 if that's your style. I run 65 on hiway. Trike kit does lower mileage/extra weight. 1-up 35-40mpg . 2-up 30-34 mpg. Ken

    Welcome to Trike Talk

    Evo engine bikes are a good platform

    Like Lee said they can benefit from cam and head work for the added weight of a trike kit

    You can also change your gearing via the tranny gears and sprocket changes

    I would not do it , that bike stock is barely 50 horse power, you do motor work to it probally spend $2500 , then you will run in to other problems & extra's $$$ , by the time your done you will be $16000 &. then try to sell it it wont be worth $10000. The Frankenstein have no trunk or saddlebags I did a 2007 dyna with a frankenstein kit it was a blast to ride the owner got sick had to sell he got $8500. had close to $20000. in it . you look around you can find a 2009 - 2012 tri glide $15000. - $18000. same thing you find a 2015 -2016 freewheeler for that price, it will allways be worth $15000. If you get a Frankenstein get the upgraded on the brakes
