Trading for a 2021

Made the decision - trading my 2013 Tri-Glide for a 2021 Tri-Glide (non-CVO)

Have a question for all of you experts out there (since I'm not one).

Want to do DK Customs Outlaw 587 Air Cleaner w/breather.

Want to do either HD Street Cannons OR Jackpot High Roller Slip-ons.

Am I going to need a tuner with the above mods? Some say yes and some say no.

Since no tuner is yet available for the 2021's I don't want to do something that is going to screw things up and make it run like crap.

My Suggestion is to drive it a while...Before you change things...The 114 is much more powerful then your 103 engine.......And then remember Harley is very tricky on warrantees since the EPA Fined them.....?

HD has some new arrivals coming to dealers now, tuner cables and new and improved Screaming Eagle modules

I have a 2018 and while the bike was getting new cylinders/pistons/oil pump under a combination of warranty and dealer internal ticket (fixing what they f'ed up), I paid the cost difference for 114 parts and for a Harley Torque cam. The dealer tuned it with a Harley street tuner to maintain warranty. I was not real impressed with the difference between that and the stock 107.

Now that I am out of warranty, I purchased and FP3, got a starter map from Vance and Hines (sent it to them and they tweaked it for the mods) and ran two autotune cycles of about one hour each, added a little bit of decel pop reduction and set the throttle response to aggressive. NOW I can feel the difference.......runs much better.

In answer to your questions, I believe the consensus is that you can change either the intake or the exhaust without a retune but not both, although I have heard of people doing it with no issues, but that would leave the door open for Harley to deny an engine claim.

Go with the Street Canons, the sound is perfect, they will maintain the warranty and they have a nice mellow rumble at cruise (just a tad louder than stock) with a healthy bark when on the throttle, but not loud enough to split eardrums in people on the bike behind you....

I was talkin with the tuner guy up at Wilkins H D in vermont, he said that the 2021s Have a new computer in them that will hard for aftermarket to make a get into & make a tuner to work on them , I dont no but that what he was saying ? try calling Dyno Jet and ask what they say ?

Who knows if Harley changed the mapping on the 114 in 2021 or not. On my 2019 I changed the intake and put skip-on mufflers on it and no tuner. It runs fine and gets about the same MPG as it did stock.

A buddy did tell me they changed the clutch for 2021 and it is now a cable clutch and much harder to pull.

Steve Cole from TTS has been able to get their tuner to work with the new ecm. Probably another month or so to get tunes for the 21’s to the public. I’m sure that Dynojet are not far behind. 21’s have different plugs as mentioned, plus different 02 sensors, that are not backwards compatible. My advice is the same as others, ride it for awhile till things open up in the aftermarket. I put my Vision on my current tri, it showed 4.25* of knock on the rear cylinder and 2.25* on the front. Went to HD, showed them the data, they even called the factory rep, didn’t want to address it, so I got a new license for the PV and am working on it now. Not saying all bike have the issue, but the SE tune does not allow for timing adjustments so you are very limited on what you can do both timing and fuel wise, but it does keep your warranty.

Do the Harley stage II with torque cam. That will suffice until out of warranty. Then get it dyno tuned. You won't regret it. I know of a dealer that is working with a tuner to not cancel the warranty.

They have a very odd way to adjust the cable, nothing like I grew up with using the adjustments behind the derby cover. Uses a hollow tube over the cable. Move the tube away from the spring adjuster. Push in a couple small plastic knobs and the cable self adjusts. There is no cable adjustment either on the cable itself like used on 2007 Road Kings, etc., where you could set the engagement point with the adjustment screw and locknut. I have ordered a clutch lever from a Soft Brake to help with the long reach.

I suggest you take it back to Dealer. My 2021 Tri Glide clutch lever starts engaging about 1/2" or so off the grip as did two other 2021's I have road tested. Clutch operation way better than the old hydraulic clutches.

My new Triglide 114 has plenty of power but I know I will soon be putting some freeer flowing slip ons just to get a little more sound out of it. Once the warranty is done there will definitely be a free flowing air cleaner, external breather, full camchest kit, and dyno tuned with a good tuner. All of that should be easily available by then . The pipes on the TG do seem louder than other bikes straight off the showroom.

I will be interested to see what you think of the new clutch lever. I bought a soft brake lever. It’s sitting on my workbench as I simply cannot get the new tiny spring to go back into the tiny hole in the inside of the clutch housing. The install is blind, and after 3 hours of trying, and after talking with dealership service I simply cannot get that spring to go in that little tiny hole. I’d be interested in your experience.
