Champion IRS Shock Absorbers
I have a 2009 Harley Davidson FLHTC that I converted to three wheels a little over 2 years ago. I installed a Champion IRS kit which has been good until recently. It looks like the left shock absorber is leaking oil. The oil is dripping down the bottom of the shock absorber on to the inside of the wheel. CV boots look dry. Has anyone changed these shock absorbers and what shock replacement did you use?
In my last search for replacements, I found that the spring is a 600lb. That spec make the shock body very unusual. I will check my emails and see what option(s) I had found. That was over a year ago and since then Champion (D&D) said they had them, but only in pairs for around $900.00. That was several months ago.Originally Posted by Bush Hog

I was at D&D (Champion) a few weeks ago to pick up a few "necessities" and asked about their trike business. Was told that things were hung up because they could not get their proprietary shocks from a vender. They had 400 on order and waiting. That was a few weeks ago so things may have changed. Like I said earlier, I did some research for a guy looking for a replacement set last year and he provided me with measurements etc., I will look for communications between myself and him and see if it will re-kindle my memory.
For some reason I think I went to Speedway Motors and found the shocks, but had to look elsewhere for the 600# springs.

Thanks. The ones that I have are made by ICON and have the red coil spring.
I called Champion in Arizona and they have them in stock. $950.00 plus shipping. I was hoping someone might know of a less expensive alternative.
I checked my emails and was unable to find a communication with that earlier customer. It was probably all done by phone. My suggestion to find an alternative shock(s) would be to remove the shock and disassemble then measure: Eye to eye length, internal eye bushing inside diameter (where the bolts go), the stroke length and body diameter. Then measure the spring length and inside diameter of the top and bottom of the spring.
I believe the RED SPRINGS are the 600# ones.
As I said earlier I found shocks at Speedway Motors but I cannot remember where I found the springs.

I don't know much about shocks, but would the springs you have fit a new shock? I guess if the diameter and length were the same they would.
Carl, I have no springs, I found them on the Internet-Of-Things and they matched the dimensions and strength. I don't know where I found them and without the previous mentioned dimensions I have no place to re-start.

Received the replacement shocks from Champion Trikes of Arizona and got them installed today. Good service and prompt shipping from Champion. Question on the shock preload. The install manual says 1/2" preload for up 400 pounds. Wifey and I combined are just shy of 400 pounds. I understand the 1/2", but since it's kind of hard to measure with trike body on, does anyone have any idea how many clicks on the adjuster knob equal a 1/2"? I think it would be easier to just count the clicks.
Forgot to mention. These are the red ICON shock absorbers.
