Old guy new to the forum

New to trikes not to bikes. I've been riding over 50 years and find my self entering a new time in my life. I have two bikes and now the wife does not feel comfortable riding with me. She thinks I am not able to support both of us on a two wheel motorcycle. Bad news is she is probably right as much as I hate to admit it. So a new trike is way out of my budget so I was thinking about an outrigger style kit. A friend of mine had one of the original Voyager kits before the owners split up around 1999 and formed Tow-Pac and Voyager. So anyway that being said I'm leaning toward Tow-Pac. I noticed they have a new model the E-Trike. Has anyone had any experience with the Tow-Pac E-Trike conversion?

Hey Masterbrewer, I am in a very similar situation as you describe. Seriously considering switching from 2 to 3 wheels because of all the things you mention. I still feel pretty confident riding solo but not with a passenger. My wife and I drove up to Ottawa, Il in summer 2019 to test ride a couple Voyagers that MTC has available for potential customers to test ride. Short story, we were sadly disappointed. The Voyager had a strange "wobble" in the ride. Its like the bike shifts slightly side to side and just feels very odd and somewhat unsafe as you are going along. Slow speed cornering was a real effort in my opinion and my arms are in pretty good shape for a 64 year old. The nice folks at MTC said all that we experienced was normal for the Voyager and that we would get used to it pretty quickly. I wasn't convinced.

I have never ridden a high tech trike conversion like Roadsmith, Lehman or CSC but I did test drive a Can-Am Spyder 3 or 4 years ago. It was an odd bird for someone who has ridden 2 wheels for over 50 years but it did feel way more stable than the Voyager. Our only gripe was cramped riding space and not so comfy saddles. I understand Can-Am has updated their touring model since I rode one so maybe its worth another shot?

Before I even consider dropping ~$30K, I want to ride a Gold Wing conversion because that is the comfort level my wife and I want. I've found a few dealers in 150 mile radius of Bloomington, IN where I live who have inventory for sale like I want but neither would permit a test ride. So my question is how does one get to test ride a CSC or Roadsmith Gold Wing conversion?

If I knew someone locally, I would agree to pay them a reasonable fee to test ride the trike for an hour or two. It would be worth a couple hundred bucks for me to find out if I agree with the trike or not. I would to take full responsibility if an accident occurred.

Like you, I'm hoping someone near me can shed some light on what I am seeking.

Dixter317, thanks for the info. I'm familiar with Voyager and Tow-Pac. I lived in Illinois for most of my life. I think the unit you test rode wasn't adjusted properly. If the outlying wheels don't have enough down pressure the bike teeters on the rear wheel of the bike. I don't know why they had a bike available for a test ride that wasn't set up properly. It is hard to get any real info between the two manufacturers. All you really find is marketing fluff. A friend went and tested and bought the 14th unit made and took it on a 5000 mile trip. His only complaint was that it ate up outrigger tires. Evidently it was not or couldn't be aligned properly. They ended up refunding his money. Thanks again I appreciate the info.
