Default A Tale of Two Cities! Part 1**Warning Long Post**

Catchy title don't you think? The cities involved are Conroe, Texas and Crestview Hills, Kentucky. A month ago I posted a photo and story regarding the purchase of a 2018 GW/CSC/DCT trike from Randy. I started the purchase process when I did hoping to have everything in place in time for riding time here in the Blue Grass State. I thought some of you might enjoy hearing the story of purchasing a trike 1208 miles from home.

I would never make a major purchase over the internet unless I had a great deal of trust in the seller. From my first conversation with Randy Johnston I knew I was dealing with a man who was an honest person that I could trust. Randy and I after a number of phone calls and discussions reached a deal and electronically shook hands. At this point I'm the owner of a beautiful new trike which is in Texas while I'm in Kentucky.

I started researching trike shipping and at the same time exploring flying in and driving home. After doing the logistics I knew the price point at which shipping made more sense than flying and driving. Finally after two weeks I found a shipper who lives 20 miles from me that I could trust and was cheaper than a fly and drive. All the arrangements were made with dates and times between the shipper, Randy and myself.

Finally my trike was picked up and headed to Kentucky!!!! Four days later Willy the shipper texted that he was three hours from my house, oh boy! We determined a church parking lot a block from my house would be the best place to unload the trike. I met Willy the shipper for the first time at the church lot and finally got to see my new trike. It was parked deep inside the covered trailer and well covered.

On the trike I hopped to start it and back it out of the trailer. Keep in mind I’ve never owned or even sat on a new wing. I’ve watched a number of Cruiseman videos and felt comfortable that I knew enough to start it and back it up. I checked the FOB and got three flashes so I knew it was on and active. I then twisted the knob to “ON” hit the starter and……Standby for part 2.

Default A Tale of Two Cities! Part 2 The Wing is Finally Home!

At the end of Part 1:

I then twisted the knob to “ON” hit the starter and…Crickets, nothing, nota the dash was darker than Dick’s Hatband. Willy the transporter suggested we push the trike out of the trailer onto the pavement so we could see what we were doing. Being unfamiliar with newer GW’s I decided to call Randy for sage advice. Randy was as surprised as we were because the GW started and ran fine when he loaded it into the trailer. Randy told me the one thing we didn’t want to do was to try and “jump start” the GW by connecting it to another vehicle.

Since I didn’t have electricity to plug in a charger I used what I had, the battery from the delivery truck. With the truck and GW turned off we ran a set of jumpers from the GW to the truck. Allowing the battery from the truck to charge the GW battery. In about five minutes I decided to turn the GW to the on position. The dash came on bright and ready to go! I hit the starter and Vrooommm it started right up. I let it set at high speed idle, said good bye to Willy and headed for home. After researching several articles Randy and I think we figured out the problem.

The GW in transit had just enough motion to keep the computer active. After four days in transit the computer drained the battery. Finally at home I was able to have a good look at our new DCT CSC Trike. I was amazed how much difference there was between my new trike and my 2012 GW/CSC which I had just sold. Thinking I should ride up to the Speedway and fuel up I hit the start switch, the wing roared to life and off to Speedway. While turning into Speedway I hit the rear brake pedal and ……….Wait for Part 3!

Default A Tale of Two Cities! Story Finale-Riding the Trike in Kentucky

At the end of Part 2: While turning into Speedway I hit the rear brake pedal and ……….: The pedal went all the way down without stopping. A few pumps and I had a fairly hard pedal. This seemed to me to indicate the brake system needed to be bled. A call to Randy and to Will at CSC I discovered this wasn’t air in the system. This was a strange problem with grease used to assemble the CSC calipers. The entire brake story as been posted in the CSC section of the forum.

I got the trike back from the brake fix and changing the differential grease. Now I can add some things to make this fine ride my own. A cup holder, flags, Goldstrike running boards for rider and passenger, Wingsoft seat, Ultimate quick detach backrest, surface mounted battery tender plug, a usb and power outlet in the top trunk, carpet and a Honda trunk organizer and last maybe an F4 windshield.

Purchasing an expensive trike on the internet and long distance can be risky. My recommendation is to make absolutely sure you purchase from someone who is above reproach, honest and that you can easily get on the phone. For me communications is everything in making a deal like this work. In my deal there are several things which I think are worth mentioning as they are special or at least to me.

When Randy found out I wanted RIVCO road pegs he surprised me with a set which he paid for and installed no charge! I mentioned to Randy that I felt the battery was if’y at best and I replaced it. Much to my surprise payment for the battery showed up in my PayPal account! When Randy found out I had to have the rear brake serviced he sent me another PayPal payment for the total amount.

Needless to say my story says a lot about Randy a/k/a Papa Zook. I have found him to be a regular guy who is honest and just wants to be treated as fair as he treats you. Now for some riding and hope to see some of you at Maggie Valley on Labor Day!

    Cool Happy Ending!

Man, I Love a happy ending to a story! Thanks for keeping the intrigue no longer that you did! Yes, it's so good knowing there are still people that are honest and stand behind there products. Hat's off to Randy and we know these days a good reputation is still much appreciated by the consumer(s). Great write up too!
