Default Adjusting Handlebars on 2019 TG

After recently having my new 12" bars installed I discovered a slight problem, they are pulled back a little too far and touch the tank. I really need to adjust them forward because this is preventing me from locking the fork.

I thought I read somewhere that the newer style fairing allows you to get to the torx bolts for adjustment pretty easily. Can someone who has adjusted theirs chime in? Also, once you can see them what does it take, a right angle T-40 maybe?

My 2020 TG has regular allen head bolts instead of Torx. If I remove the plastic accessary switch cover that goes around the ignition switch or at least move it out of the way I can get to the bottom allen bolt and loosen it to allow the bars to move.

The above post will get you where you need at least, I know Kevin had his done at dealer and had to do that also to get them where he wanted them. I take you wasn't there when they installed them, if you was they should be adjusted the way you want, maybe you didn't turn the front end to see if they was going to be in the way of tank, when I had mine done I sat on it and got it where I wanted and also turn the front end in both directions to see if it would hit. Surprised the installer didn't notice this.

Maybe call Kevin or look for the post and picture he did on his 2019 to adjust his handlebars back further I believe, not sure but there is a cover I guess you can move to get to the bottom allen head bolts to loosen and move, can't reach the top but bottom should be enough to move bars.

    Default adjusting the handle bars

remove the thorx screws on the ignition cover and tilt it back. Use a 3/16 ball hex allen and loosen the two closet bolts, then adjust and tighten up replace the cover and your done. I have done this several times on different bikes.

Thanks guys, I knew I would get the answer here!

I was at the dealership when they installed and sat on it for the adjustment. I actually pulled them back a little to where I wanted them, problem was I didn't check for clearance and it looks like the tech didn't either. No harm no foul, I'll adjust them today. Thanks again.

Pretty easy to get into and adjust. However, when I moved them back up toward the windshield and checked clearance I was still hitting the tank. I finally got them adjusted to where I can lock the forks which was my goal. Problem is if I turn the bars all the way either direction they will touch the tank.

I'm pretty sure my tank lift kit is raising the front of my tank just enough to allow this to happen. I'll hunt around for some type of protective sleeve that is maybe 1" or 2" long to cover the part of the handlebars that touch the tank, no big deal.

Being you have a tank lift just wondering if you can slide the tank back as far as it will go, just curious if that would help

Been awhile since I put it on but I only did the front so I'm thinking I can't move it back. I'll be on a pretty long ride this Saturday so I'll see how it goes with them in their current position. If I need them moved back I'll probably have to remove the tank lift.

I found that the new 12" bars were still too far forward for me. I tried to loosen the front tank lift and rear tank bolts and slide it back but still didn't really give me enough room to pull the bars back. The front curve of the tank is just too far forward when it is lifted in the front with the kit.

I removed my lift kit and wings and adjusted the bars where they felt comfortable. Happy Camper now!

I'm glad you got it where you want now, sorry about the tank lift, this gives me second thoughts now on a tank lift for my bike, was going to order later on for tank lift but with the rear option to, was going with the 1.5 lift. What lift did you have??? Also you went with 12 inch bars, what brand, mine are 12.5 wild ones bars, just curious what brand bar since maybe all 12 inch bars are not all the same. I know quite a few on here have lift kits but have the 2+2 sweepers bars, not sure what difference is.

I installed LA Choppers 10” Twin Peak bars on my 2019. I had a 1.5” tank lift with rear option & wings. I had to remove the tank lift and replace the wings with the no lift wings to adjust the bars where I wanted them.

I do have a 1.5” lift with rear lift and lift wings...$75 shipped conus.

Trampass, I'm ashamed to admit I don't know what bars they put on for sure. I just know when I dropped the tank back down it allowed tons of room for those bars to come back.

We did a little over 120 miles yesterday without the lift and wings. To be honest I couldn't notice any real difference in air flow or driver/passenger heat. I trust Kevin's test numbers, I just think the differences are hard to notice.

Sounds like Smith really answered your question though.
