Passenger room 2021 TG vs. 2014 FLHTK

Morning...

New trike owner here.

Just bought a new 2021 Tri Glide Ultra Classic, traded in a 2014 Ultra Limited.

The tour pak and seats are the same between the two bikes, but my wife swears there is less room (front/back) for her.

Anyone else think this, or is it just a result of a Covid diet (haha)?

I can always do a tour pak relocator kit ...

Don't have a passenger so really can't answer, sure someone will chime in, the tour pak relocator is a option, some on here have it to get more room for the other half. Could be the covid diet, I know I gained 10lbs and trying to lose it now.

What is important is your wife's comfort. I would suggest if you need it, get the relocation kit.

I bet the difference she feels is that the back rest on the tour pack is still new and would probably conform to her as it wears in. But if it is enough for her to notice, re-locate and not worry about the wear in.

Thanks! I seem to remember 2 bikes ago (it was an 09 Classic) I used one of his kits to move the Classic tour pak back 3” and it was a slam dunk. Quality product!

One other thing just occurred to me in looking at the 2021 TG - the floorboards are bolted in the full UP position. The wife is 5’ 9” and we always ran the floorboards on the Ultra at the lowest setting, so that could be part of the equation. I agree another portion might be the new seat/backrest may need some miles on them.

I will get out the Allen sockets, loctite and torque wrench, lower the floorboards and have her give it another test.

I looked at the relocation kit from Kuryakin and it was nothing more than a piece of flat stock with some holes drilled in and chromed. I went down to Lowes and bought some 1/4"X1" flat stock and made my own for about $8. I just painted it black because you can't see it anyway.

LIke when your not riding with a passenger and you want to slide it all the way forward. Then when you get a passenger you can slide it all the way back. I haven't seen one made yet for my 2020 TG. I would buy one if they were available for my bike. Maybe you can make one and sell it for all us mechanically challenged people.

Kuryakyn had one that went from 1" to 3" but it was North of $300.

I think what he meant by forward was the original position that it is in now. The adjustable relocation kit let's you move the tour pack back 3" when you have a passenger and move it forward to the original position when it's just you.

One reason I like the idea is that when there is no passenger you can slide it forward to the OEM position. Personal opinion is that when slid 3 inches back it makes my TG look like an elongated toilet. I know, that's probably a bad analogy, and I may have injured some pride among some. Still, I see the reason for relocation of the Tour pak. And who knows, maybe I myself may get one someday. Never say never.

I've had a relocation kit on a 2009 Ultra, 2013 Ultra, 2016 Trike, and now my 2019 Trike. To be honest I have kept the last two kits (2016 & 2019 Trikes) in the middle position no matter if I was on a solo trip or riding 2-up.

I've made a liquor store run or a run to Lowe's and ended up filling up that passenger seat area with "stuff" and was glad the extra room was there.

Back to is there a difference between the old and new design, I say yes. I've also noticed less "space" on my 2021 Triglide compared to the 2016. I'm told the difference is the frame design under the seats, particularly if you have a rider back rest. The arc of the frame on the newer model compared to more of a flat/slanted design in the older models causes the back rest to sit differently and create just a little less space for the passenger. Barely noticeable, unless you just the right size to need that extra space.

Years ago,the tourpack had 2 sets of mounting holes. I got one where it had been mounted in the holes closer to rider. Just repositioned & all was good. Seem to remember that being about 3-4 inch diff. Maybe check for that. Not sure if that still applys,but worth a look.
