Default New Trailer For The Can Am

Last weekend I picked up this new Trailstar ATV trailer with fold down sides for hauling the Can Am whenever needed. I have a 5x8 motorcycle trailer (similar style), but its not wide enough for the Ryker to fit. This week I installed a set of the Erickson Wheel Chocks & Strap Kit and they hold it in place perfectly.

For the rear wheel I installed a pair of fold down D-rings, (strapped down the same as the front). Took it out on a test spin on the interstate and locally, put it through a few maneuvers with some hard braking and the machine was solid with no movement. Its the first time I've ever used this style of wheel chock and I really like them.

They make it easy to strap down & take off and I dont have to worry about scratching up the A-arms on the front. Tomorrow I will be picking up a full length Roadmaster Guardian rock guard and installing it on the front of the trailer.

Very nice. I have one w/o the fold down sides. Drop ramp is spring loaded. I can raise it with one hand. I made wheel stops out of a 2x6 with a 2x4 screwed to the top. L shaped. Next up is a new Ford Ranger Lariat Supercrew as a tow vehicle. The Mustang is going away. My lower back is complaining.

A spring assisted rear ramp would be a nice option, but not available on this brand. Although I did test it before buying, its really not too bad. I too have a bad lower back, and because of that I just cant get in and out of small vehicles very easily. So I've pretty much been driving a pickup for at least the last 25 years. At least pickup trucks doesnt require you to be a Ninja to get in & out of them.

Just finished installing the Roadmaster Guardian rock guard on the front of the trailer, still need to add a storage box. That Roadmaster Guardian sells for $460 new, I got it at a garage sale for $20 bucks. I usually never get lucky like that. I had been looking for a rock guard but couldnt find a reasonably priced rock guard out there. When I saw this one, I had to stop and ask how much. When she told me the price, I jumped off the bike and quickly paid for it. She held it for me until I could come by the next day to pick it up.

Thanks, I'm usually the one who just missed out on the deal, but I got lucky with that stone guard find.

What is the purpose or the advantage for fall down sides on a trailer I have never seen that before.

As I mentioned in the OP, its a Trailstar ATV trailer. It allows you to fold down a side and load ATV's or smaller motorcycles Like my Kawasaki, cross-wise on the trailer. For instance, if I'm not hauling the storage box on the open front area in front of the Ryker, I can load my Kawasaki two wheeler in that space and haul both the motorcycle and the Can Am at the same time. Thats why I went with a 12' long, for the extra space.

    Thumbs up

Nice set up you got there

I'm kinda looking for a trailer that would fit my Goldwing trike............ The problem that I have, is that I honestly have no place to store it when not in use.....So I decided that if and when I need a trailer I'd just rent one from Uhaul..... Big enough to haul my trike..........

I did buy one quite a few years ago (2002) when my bike was a two wheel'rrr, and I towed it to Sturgis bike week.....

Yeah, I kind of had the same issue. Home Owners Association doesnt allow boats, RV's, commercial vehicles or trailers of any kind on the property if it can be seen from the road. I have a 6' privacy fence in the back yard and on each side of the house. I just extended the fence on the left side of the house a little further towards the front and added a double gate that allows me to store it on the side of the house. Once the gate is closed, it cant be seen. I keep the trailer covered with a huge tarp.

As someone I know once said about their child, "out of sight is out of mind." I suppose the same applies to an HOA!

Very nice setup. I'm starting to shop trikes and am discovering all kinds of other changes that may accompany a change in style of bike. Thanks for posting the photos.

I think you’ll find if you rent an open trailer your trike will bottom out on the ramp. I have a BigTex 10’ landscapers trailer and have to remove the ramp and use some folding 9’ ramps and put them in the bed of the truck when I’m done. Kind of a pain in the arse. My 2017 GW has a Roadsmith kit which has an extra long wheel base. Not sure if other brands will load onto a standard trailer ramp.
