    Default Eastern Arizona 2021

Our Eastern Arizona gathering is coming up soon. Sept 30 - Oct 4 again and the rides will be the same as last year with the exception of Day 1. We will be taking the Coronado Trail both directions instead of coming back through New Mexico. I will repost ride maps when I get time. For anyone interested in camping with us we will be north of Highway 260 on County Road 1325 a few miles north of Greer, AZ.

There is plenty of room for as many campers as decide to join us. Day 2 will be the same nice short ride ending at camp for a social. Sally and I will be serving Chili (mild), Cornbread, and by special request (Lola) Potato Salad. The weather last year was warmer than normal and the riding was beautiful.

Sept 30 is arrival and I should be at our campsite by noon. Last year almost everyone came out to camp to visit. I will be bringing several extra camp chairs again. Lodging is available a few miles from camp in Springerville/Eager. Most people stayed at the Best Western in Eager which turned out to be a good launching point for two of the rides.

I hope we have as good a turnout as last year.

    Kurt

Got the son married off last year, plane tickets bought (hope Allegiant doesn't cancel flight on Sept 28th!), and room reservations made.....bound and determined to make it down this year!

A few months ago I attempted to book a room at the Best Western. They must have thought I wanted to make a down payment on the real estate because it was exorbitant.

I am staying elsewhere this year so I have money left for fuel and food.

I forget what we paid last year about 120 per nite I think. Anyway it was an 80 dollar room at best. NO where near worth what they want this year. I had checked earlier this year before we found out timing was kinda bad for us & I was shocked what they wanted. Like Lola said I didn't want to make a down payment on the place. They must be smokin wacky tabacky.

I found the same thing that Bill and Lola did. Seems all the prices have skyrocketed. I got a room at the El Jo where I have stayed several times before. Even then, their prices have gone up a lot but no where near the price of the GW. I think Americas Best has good prices too but not sure about their quality. Never stayed there. The good thing is all the motels in Springerville and Egar are all within about a mile of each other. Getting anxious..... Jim

I'll agree on the prices, stayed at Reed's in Springerville earlier this year and prices had gone up substantially. Still a great ride and worth being there IMO.

    Default Ride Maps

This year the only real change to the rides is Day One. Instead of spending hours riding up through New Mexico we will turn around after a lunch break in Morenci and head back the way we came. Also the ride down will be a ride your own pace trip starting at Hannigan Meadow. We can ride back as a group. I plan on being pretty well wrung out by the time we get to the overlook at the mine so I doubt I will be feeling to sporty for the ride home. I am going to spend some time on google earth to find a couple of good stopping points along the way to rejoin.

As a reminder, we will be riding at high altitudes and it can get cold. On the flip side of that the elevation differences on two of the rides range from 8000 to 1900 feet in the matter of a couple of hours.

Day Two is the same as last year except for the food.

    Name: AZ Gathering rides_0002.jpg

Size: 34.2 KB

Day Three is the same plan as last year and as such will be weather permitting. Last year was warmer than normal which caused a modification to the route. If it is cool enough and the group decides we will follow the map. We will definitely be flexible.

As we get closer I would like to get a head count so I can bring enough food for our lunch on Day Two

Really looking forward to a good turnout this year and some great riding.

    Kurt

    Define "high"....

    :-)

We have a ride here called the "5 in 1". It's five mountain passes over 10,000 ft elevation in one day. They change the passes every year. They get 300 registered motorcycles.....

Hey Kurt, do you know whether there is cell service (we're AT&T) at the dispersed camping area??? Might have some business to do and I'd rather avoid having to ride into town for it.....

Right now, it's looking "more likely than not" that Karen and I will be there!!!

Mary and I will be there.

Chuck, if I recall correctly the AT&T was good there.

We have a Verizon and AT&T hotspot...I know that at least one of them worked well.

Looking forward to seeing y'all there.

We had 4G Verizon. I am sure we can hotspot Verizon for you if needed.
