Wanting to put a rake kit on Sportster

Finally followed through on my notion to have a rake kit installed on my 05 Sportster 1200 C with a Frankenstein Kit. I know next to nothing about rake and trail, so I just asked a local Harley shop to do the install. All I wanted was to move the front wheel forward about 4 to 6 inches. The shop owner refused the work saying it would be unsafe and I would not be happy. He said my bike is just not suited for a rake. I'm sure I have seen a number of Sportster Trikes with extended front wheels so I thought I would get some advice and opinions from you all.
