    Default Why no E Brake?

About a month ago I purchased a 2006 Goldwing 1800 new conversion from a dealer. New to Trike riding and 1000 miles later still on a honeymoon with it. So far I am loving it, but, just curious about one thing. Why no E brake? Some I looked at had e brakes. No sure I am totally happy up here in the mountains using the transmission to keep it in place. What do you do?

    Thanks RAY

Placing your bike in "first gear" when stopped, will not at all, do any harm to your transmission............... Been doing this to all my bikes since I was 15 yrs old (70 yrs old now) and I've had too many to remember them all, and have never had any tranny problems...........

My Roadsmith does not have a "e" brake either.............I just place in 1st gear

I understand this with 2 wheels, I never had an e-brake but wasn't sure about the 3 wheeler because I never had one before. Not sure about weight differences and parking on hills. Thanks for the info.

Ray, this is not an E brake per say, but it will lock your brakes when you are parked.

The brake on trikes are parking brakes, Not E brakes ..And Trikes will on hills roll all by its self all the way to the bottom of the hill without a parking brake of some kind to stop it...And if the hill is steep enough even in first gear without a proper park brake ...

Good advice Deputy Dawg, I remeber when I was talking to the Roadsmith kit installer and asking if I should have reverse added, and it is expensive, he said no you just have to be aware of where you park and he was right I've never run in to a situation where I wished I had done it.

On another note it's nice when you have a talented and honest installer doing your kit. I was going down the list of add ons with him and several items including reverse gear and he said he wouldn't recommend certain ones, felt they weren't neccessary.

Hard to admit to......But trikes do roll......In 2008 the Spyder was my first street trike i parked on my driveway , And it rolled down the driveway , down the street for about 2 hundred feet or so till it hit a curb and that was the last time i left a trike without being in gear and the park brake Firmly set..

    But.........

Just as a side note....When ever i bring in a vehicle and the service guy says i never seen that happen before, I politely tell him to write it down so when the next vehicle comes in with the same problem you can say...Yes i've seen that before....

Where I live not parking on a hill isn't always an option. We are hillbillies, in NE Georgia. i have seen high dollar Porsche bumping across the parking lot, in gear. Told the guy in the Dr office and you can say he wasn't there for a leg issue cause that dude could run.

Ray, til you decide what to do for an E brake, go to Harbour Freight and get a roll of their Velcro. Cut a piece to make a loop for around your front brake lever to the handle bar.

This works good and when not in use keep it wrapped round the handle bars for when you park

This stuff works great and should be in your trunk @ all times

I rode a Streetbob solo seat to Sturgis and back from Florida using this as a tie down for my gear on a luggage rack. I made it there and back with the Velcro holding all my gear

I also do not have that brake, and so far (two seasons) have not ever needed one.. I do have to watch myself coming out of my own driveway though, it's on a very slight incline, and it will roll, if I don't place the trans in first gear before closing my garage door....

Frank I'm getting very hungry again, what you say we meet again very soon??? Too bad A'bee's closed

What I do is; put the bike in 1st gear and press the reverse button and shut off the engine.

With this set up you won't be able to roll the bike, even if you put it in neutral. Kinda an anti theft setup.

    Jim,

Has your reverse button ever stuck IN on you??? Two years ago I was going on a planned trip with three other riders, I pushed my trike out of the garage, and put in in REVERSE like you mentioned, the button stuck, in and I had a very hard time getting it to pop out so I could continue on my trip....From then on I've been very hesitant, to use my reverse button.............

But what I do now is to push, all the buttons, a few times a week just to keep them in shape , (so far soooooooooooooo good!
