Default Opinions of installing a extra gas tank on CSC trike

I have ordered a CSC trike kit for my 2015 GW. I was asked if I was considering an install of a spare gas tank. At time, I was not inclined to consider the option.

Question, is this a good add on to the bike and if possible what is an experienced owner opinion on this addition.

With wife riding her Indian, we normally stop about every 2 hours for breaks and such.

Riding alone, I like to push a little further down the road.

    Thanks in advance.

In my opinion get it .. There are very few people who don’t wish they had a few extra gallons in their stock tank.. me included..

I enjoy having the extra fuel capacity even though I've never actually needed it.

    It's a luxury. Who doesn't like luxury?

I say get it if you can afford it.

    Get it!

No... I am not an experienced extra-tank owner.

My GL1800 Gold Wing trike had the standard tank.

    Trikes suck gas.

Always seemed to be riding in remote areas... as soon as that gas needle hit 1/2 tank it dropped like a rock... wished I had that extra tank just for peace of mind!

The auxiliary tank option is an absolute plus.

The extended range and piece of mind is a plus.

    Enjoy your new conversion.....

You will not regret getting the aux. fuel tank. You WILL regret not getting it if you don't. The MPG of a GL1800 will drop from about 40 to about 33 after a trike kit is installed. The aux. tank gives you a total capacity of 10 gallons of fuel. Your trike range will be slightly more than a 2 wheeler with the extra fuel. Go for it..... Jim

Unless you travel in way out places and gas is hard to find, I wouldn't buy it. Cost to much for a plastic "can"

and odds are you'll never need it. Save your money

I'm actually in the other camp. I declined it when I had the conversion done. I too will ride for maybe 2 hours tops before needing a break. I have done several trips with others who are riding GL1800's and find that they are usually ready to refuel when I am. What also helped was that before triking, there was a guy who sometimes came along and had a CSC Cobra and he also never seemed to need to refuel early before we did.

If you do road trips in very remote areas it might be nice. I can usually get about 230 miles out of a tank. There was only 1 time where I wished I had the aux tank. I had fueled up in Las Vegas, NM and headed down a very desolate road (Hwy 104) to Tucumcari NM. After arriving in Tucumcari I had clocked about 105 miles and decided to continue on as I was still over a half tank. I then headed up US 54 to Dalhart Texas as it was only supposed to be another 95 miles and should have been well within my regular mileage.

I was sure that there would be a place to refuel if I ended up needing to. I couldn't have been more wrong... There was not one open gas station the entire way to Dalhart. I also ended up fighting a bunch of strong cross winds almost the entire way. I was really getting nervous as I was closing in on Dalhart and my low fuel light had been on for a little while. I pulled into the first gas station I came across and ended up putting 6.4 gallons into a 6.6 gallon tank. That was one time I would have really liked the aux tank but found that it hasn't really been needed.

I’ve been there toooo. One time in East Central MT. on a Sunday with 5 more trikes. One of them had a 1800 w/Hannagian aux/tank. He was laughing the whole time

Here's a different scenario.I have a 50 mile round trip to work and running 70 I get about 150 miles out of a tank.Well about 165 but there's not a station that works out and pushing ain't fun so 150 it is.Not fussing about my mileage but filling up every 3 days sucks when your only riding in 30 minute runs.I would love a few more gallons just to keep from having to fill up so often.

Life is full of hardships...... guess it’s a Psychological thing. I’m ok with stopping bout every 2 hrs for fuel and bathroom break when traveling but it’s Aggravation when I need to do the same when I’m running errands or just putting around the county.

My come to jesus moment was leaving wing ding in 2007 in billings montana heading east to N dakota ALONE.

Being from the crowded "east" in never figured on it being so desolate. It was then I learned of the term on the exit signs.... "No services".

I slowed down to 50mph to save on the fuel, and I managed to pull into some podunk town that to this day I still havent found on a map and got just enuff gas to get to bismark.
