Help! New Engine? DENVER, COLORADO

I have a 92 Goldwing Trike. Everyone I've talked to thinks I have thrown a rod. So far I can't find anyone that will work on it! Does anybody know someone in the Denver area?? Thank you ahead of time for reading or maybe a suggestion!

I can't help you with a shop.Wing mechanics are hard to find where i'm at to so I do my own.In today's world if you are inside an engine of that age it's cheaper and probably better to find a good used engine. What symptoms does it have?

Help

It has a loud knocking sound.

I haven't been riding for about a year because of health issues. Started it up at least every 2nd months it seemed fine. Started her up and she has this knocking sound. We checked the oil and that's good.

I was thinking about just replacing the engine, I can't find anybody to do that.

Seems odd that it would develop a knock when your not riding. Did it develop over a period of time or did it start suddenly? Can you determine which side of the engine it’s coming from?:wave4:

If it threw a rod does have a hole in the engine? Pull the plugs do they show physical damage? Next make sure all the pistons are going up and down. It's possible a piece of carbon has fallen from the combustion chamber and is stuck to the piston crown. Hold it at about 1500 rpm and dump a can of seafoam in the intake fast enough to stall the motor. Now let it sit over night. It will be hard to start and smoke a lot when it does. But rev it up and see if it s sounding better. If there is actually a thrown rod or major mechanical damage your not going to fix it. Just buy another motor Honda's are a nightmare when it comes to engine internals multiple sizes on every part.

There's always the "Broomstick Stethoscope" for locating the source of the knocking.

A long screwdriver also works well. Put the handle against the bones by your ear and probe around the engine with the tip. You should be able to localize the source of the knocking and proceed from there. Good Luck!

New Engine, Denver Co

Pull the dipstick out and see if there is metal savings on it, if not take your oil filter off and cut in half and look for metal flakes in the element. Might check the alt drive and see if it might be cracked or has a broken ear on it. Friend had one that cracked an ear after installing a high output alt and it had a bad knock. Anyway thats a major teardown too. Good Luck.

New Engine Denver

Pull all the plugs and perform a compression check. Most auto parts stores have testers and some will let you use them for free. Cheap way is to pull the plugs and hold you thumb over the spark plug hole and spin the engine over.
