    Smile Anyone worked out how to keep their ABS brakes on a Harley Ultra Champion conversion?

    I read an article that said ABS improves safety 21%. Anyone worked out how to keep their ABS on an 09 Harley Ultra Champion trike conversion? Ta.:Bow Down:

    I read in another forum that Bob Twitte (Trinity Trikes) got it done on a Honda Silverwing.

    I read somewhere, maybe here, where someone had the ABS working on the front wheel but not the rear wheels. Don't know how one would go about making wheel speed sensors work on two rear wheels when the ECU is designed to monitor only one rear wheel for ABS purposes. I don't really know but it would seem that you would need two master cylinders, one for each rear wheel, operating independent of each other. Probably be pretty expensive to get everything plumbed up and wired to work.

    The following is from a write up on a Trinity coversion of a Silverwing:


    "Brake types

    One-channel, one-sensor ABS
    This system is commonly found on pickup trucks with rear-wheel ABS. It has one valve, which controls both rear wheels, and one speed sensor, located in the rear axle. This system operates the same as the rear end of a three-channel system. The rear wheels are monitored together and they both have to start to lock up before the ABS kicks in. In this system it is also possible that one of the rear wheels will lock, reducing brake effectiveness. This system is easy to identify. Usually there will be one brake line going through a T-fitting to both rear wheels.

    Jon, seems the trike has the one-channel system. Although the sensor is not on the axle, it is on the hub which is connected to the axle with the chain. Not sure if the ratio is 1:1, but it seems so. Both wheels are going to be controlled with the single rotor. I am satisfied now that everything is as it is suppose to be. Thanks for leading me into learning this much about ABS."

    My dealer has worked out how to do it. Thanks for comments. Kiwis are good at these things. Ditto hand brake. If you want to ask questions and details re parts Google HD cycles NZ and send Dave a message. My trike will also have reversing sensors, just a safety thing that counts. Ian.

    Default possible solution

    There's a company in China that will cut a sensor disk to your measurements. I haven't ordered one yet, but I'm considering it, for a DNA axle I'm installing. I can't, considering, comment on quality, but I'm pretty sure the price is less than a custom job here.
