GL 1000 V65 Saber

Well

My original search was for an outfit that fab’d a kit that I could put on my 1977 GL 1000 or my V65 Saber. So far, nada! LOL!

Finally got an answer from Roadsmth and they don’t make one. That’s not a shock and at least they were polite about it!

2001 and up is all they are interested in.

The answer was courteous enough but bare of any detail.

I have a background that allows me to grasp technical detail and fab things up. It MAY be possible to buy a unit and fab it up into a usable conversion on my GL or my V65 Saber.

Rather do the Saber as it is one of the most powerful scoots I’ve even been up on. To lend credence to that, I first bought it in 1984. Took it to ATCO in Jersey and ran a flat 11.1 sec in the 1320. I stand 6’3” and at the time was in at 205lbs. I am NOT a drag bike rider but it sure got my attention.

The handling is not the greatest and if you break out of a turn, you’ll soon be a hood ornament on a Peterbuilt but THAT is a different tale.

For a long distance run, it’s a superb scoot. Low vibration, shaft drive and power to put a V Max (the early ones) rider in the dirt. It’s ALWAYS about skill level. Hardly ever about the machinery your on. IMHO!

Now for a question. I’ve come across an outfit by the name of

Motor Trike, Inc.

P.O. Box 611

22667 FM 15

Troup, TX 75789.

Are they still in business? They’ve got a website but their email is inop. Calling the 800 number get the connection to “International Hold” and the Texas number gets a third party answering service that will not take a message and refers you to call Monday through Thursday. Sounds like a kit car Ponzi Scheme. We shall see?

Any information on these guys would be helpful.

THANKS.

Did you ever check out the Voyager trike kits as Trike Lady mentioned in your “New Member” post?

And yes, Motor Trike is a legitimate business. Try again Monday.

Lew one of the problems you are going to run into is no company is going to advise you on modifying one of their conversions to work on your project. The liability issue will prevent that. You are going to have to look at different conversion and see for yourself what YOU can modify to make work.

Another issue is going to find a company that will just sell you the conversion. Most require one of their certified installers to do the conversion. They will not sell direct. Champion used to.

Suggest you call Randy at CUT N SHOOT CUSTOMS (see ad at ad section) and speak with him. He owns the site and is very helpful.

Good luck

Thanks Boys.

It's already on my calendar to give them a call Monday. I'll keep you guys updated.

As far as Liability. LOL! Trust me, I am aware of those issues. Folks will, literally, sue a ham, sandwich to try and get a settlement. Seems that Roadsmith WILL sell their unit as a DIY but I will need to go into their shop to get some dimensions before we get anywhere near the part where I give them money and they give me product! I took a look at your data Gorilla and you are listed as living in Key Largo! LOL. Is Captain Tony's still over at Key West? If so do not mention my name. I think I still owe a bar tab there from my navy daze! The White House was another joint that the Navair guys used to hang out. (Damn Sailors!) Worse, I was a rotor head. HC-2.

Anyway, I'll let you know how it all plays out.

lew capt tony's is still there but the whole town is more tourist then military. i was an air traffic controller as one of my 2 careers i told you rotor heads where to go.

hey good luck on the build

To you folks!!

I must return to the 'Burgh tomorrow for a week so I'll likely be out of touch. I wanted to take a moment to reiterate what a fine group of folks you are and try to respond to any unanswered replies.

To Paws.

Took a look and I’m just not impressed enough with the design and implementation of that type of setup. Nothing against them but I really like the Roadsmith IRS and that they use a real live diff with a real live drive shaft. Don’t know who builds and balances the shaft but the folks SOUND like they know what they are doing. I will dress like a hobo biker, my usual attire anyway, walk in and see if I can talk to the welders or machinists to judge their skill sets. The usual response is WTF is THAT? Joe Shit the ragman? LOL! One of the fab guys told the boss, Yeah, but you should have seen the bead he laid down! LOL! We shall See. LOL!

To Gorilla.

You were in ATC? Well done. I was an E. Crew guy when I was in and out of Key West. Got my tickets AFTER I got out and moved to North Dakota! (At least we ain’t SOUTH Dakota! LOL!) We had to get our Ag Cats, Pawnees and Super Cubs off the field at GFND before the Tower opened at 0700. I didn’t ALWAYS make it leading to some interesting discussions at the Bronze Boot after work. ROFLMAO. Yes I actually DID get Stearman time. Later on, I actually worked for the FAA. Learned new respect for the Controllers. And they me!! It worked well.

I’ll be gone for at least a week.

Talk to you all upon my return.

I don’t personally know anything about Voyager trikes..was just echoing a brand Trike Lady suggested to you in this thread.

My trike was a 2008 GL 1800 Gold Wing with An IRS Motor Trike Adventure kit. I really liked it..never any problems in 11 years and close to 40,000 miles on the kit.

For many and various reasons I sold the trike this year and bought a 2021 Spyder RT Ltd.

I told you folks I would keep you updated and here I am.

I have been looking for a kit to convert my GL 1000 or V65 Saber to a trike. I'd like it to be a Roadsmith because from what I can gather, they seem to be what I'm looking for. No one makes such a kit or can recommend anyone who would want to get involved with such a project! OK. Well I'm not easily discouraged and I got a tip on here regarding Torbleau Trikes. Couldn't find a website for them until I went to Facebook and found them. Put the question to them late Friday and just got san answer. They can do it. LOL! The asked me to call and talk to Justin Torbleau. And I shall later this week!

Anyone amplify on their rep? Any tips on dealing with them?

I appreciate any and all input.

Thanks again!
