    Default reverse not working

So the dilemma is that I have power to all the circuit's. Tested the motor on bench and all worked. Reading 12 volt through the circuit breaker and relay all read's good. So It will not go into revers. Any one have had this problem would appreciate the solution you derived at. Thanks for any info. I am at a loss. Will check my ground wire today. Russ.

Had it off yester day and it worked fine on the bench. Like I said getting power thorough the circuit's. Thinking now might be a bad or week ground. Thanks for the info rhino. It dose not make since it would work on the bench and not in the bike. Will go out and see in I have a bad ground.

No load it will still spin.....Put a load on the motor then try it again..Also just banging the motor will loosen stuck brushes...For a short time...On my Ex-2011 Tri-Glide..I had mine out 3 times and every time it was the brushes, And then i went to a mechanical reverse no brushes to worry about any more......

Ok yes it was the brushes stuck. I am going to order a new motor any way's. This one look's like it has had a lot of ware. The ground brushes where stuck so cleaned them up and sanded them some so they where swollen. Cleaned the armature and the commutator. Sprayed every thing with contact cleaner. Put it back in the bike and work's well. Figure it will do it again till I get the new motor. Thanks for the info and the help.

Pulled my 2012 reverse motor apart today after it did not work this season. It had worked off and on last season and I figured it was the brushes. When I pulled it apart, three brushes were stuck retracted. One was still working and sliding through the retainer. There was water in the area and it had actually rusted the retainers and around the brushes. The plate the springs and retainers are attached to was very dirty also.

I put the brush plate in a small peanut butter lid and filled it with brake cleaner soaking the plate and brushes. Using a small paste brush, I brushed all the grease, dirt and rust off the assembly. I blew off the assembly with air and it cleaned up pretty well. The brushes now slide in and out of the retainer very smoothly.

Tomorrow I will clean the grit from the rest of the parts and put it all back together for a bench test. I suspect it will work properly once again. I will look into a way to put a little silicone calk over the parting line where the cap is screwed onto the motor body and try to keep some of the water from getting in there.

Sometimes you just have to take things apart and find out what is going on inside.

I put the cleaned and assembled reverse motor back in this morning. Still had it up off the lift so I could check the operation with the rear wheels off the lift. It went into reverse very nicely and sounded real good. After putting it down on the lift and putting the ramps back on the lift I backed it off using the reverse. worked fine.

Side note> I looked up the brush plate with brushes on the internet. I found a place that is selling a complete brush plate assembly for $17.90 with no shipping charges. I have no idea if this part is any good or not. For this price, I did order one and its on the way. I know the one I just cleaned up and put back into my reverse motor will suffer from brush sticking again and probably in a year or so. I will have the replacement already on my shelf for the next time for the price I have to try it.
