    Default Trailers

I was thinking about getting a trailer to haul my trike …. errrr golf cart and zero turn mower, in case of an emergency! Are there any reliable and good brands out there for suggestion?

    Thanks,

    Jim

Look for something with at least 13" wheels.

Check the speed rating on the tires. Until recently most trailer tires only had a 62 mph rating. I've recently seen 12 &13 inch trailer tires rated at 87 mph. Nothing like having a trailer tire come apart at interstate speeds !!! (ask me how I know. )

Narrow it down … open or enclosed?

I had a open Aluma TK1 I used for my Gold Wing trike. The loading ramp tucked underneath the trailer body. Very easy to load/unload and move around by hand.

It tracked beautifully. Very lightweight and comes with a storage box and rock shield up front. Mine had the spare tire and electric brakes. Sold it to a TrikeTalk friend then sold the trike. Now driving a 2021 Spyder RTL around the hill country.

Jim, I have an Aluma 7712H Tilt Utility Trailer for our trike. I also use it for my garden tractor, etc... picture doesn't show the motorcycle bracket installed... it works well as a multifunctional trailer.

I saw one of these for sale on the web and Kinda looked it over. I have seen the prices anywhere from $2100 to $5000+! I think it would make a good trailer for hauling my golf cart and/or zero turn mower. LOL

In a way, I would like an enclosed trailer for security reasons, if I decided to haul instead of riding …. I mean mowing. LOL

I need to find a dealer nearby to check out the quality and prices.

    Thanks,

    Jim

What ever you decide upon, you need to be ready to commit when you find it. Trailers, especially aluminum ones, have a big backlog due to supply chain issues. I bought a Primo 6X10 several months ago and it was hard to get even though they are made here in Arizona.

Aluminum and even trailer axles have been hard to get. Good used trailers seem to be holding their value too. Good luck..... Jim

Hello Jim, I haul in an enclosed 6 X 12 tandem axle Look trailer. I wish I could have done a 7 X 12 but no room to go that wide. I chose a V-nose for the extra interior length. The peace of mind of keeping the trike out of sight and out of the elements is well worth the extra cost in my opinion.

I built a cabinet and work bench into the V section which is surprisingly large and holds everything I need for the trike. The chock is a Wheeldock made in Stillwater, OK. The customer service is great as I had it in a few days and it is very well designed and built.

I thought about a toy hauler for half a second…..! I just bought a new Casita fiberglass travel trailer for going camping.

I will share, if she is young, purty, wealthy, cooks, likes riding, and will put up with my B.S.! I would probably get kicked out anyway and have to sleep on the picnic table. It could also be like a Southern divorce …. she would get the “mobile home” (toy hauler) and the trike parked in the living room. LOL Just kidding…….

I have two 26’ Pace car haulers in my back yard, but one has my truck “Bubba” and the other one has one of my Camaros, “Joanie”.

I like the idea of another enclosed for secure hauling, but I also like the Aluma for its openness.

Just getting feedback and thoughts from all of you guys and gals.

About the “open”.. loved my Aluma TK1 but was always concerned about getting caught out in a hail storm. Always wondered what I would do… try to pull over and just sit it out or add to the severity of the hail stone dings and keep on hauling down the road trying to get out of it sooner…

Never did get into a hail storm (but there were rain storms..and I was always concerned I might encounter hail) with it but watched the weather pretty close.

Also would have had to invest in something that would easily tow an “enclosed” and didn’t want to do that.

Funny thing about that…being concerned about a hail storm… never gave it a second thought of it while actually riding… been caught out riding in some pretty heavy rain but never even thought about hail that might accompany it…
