Riding Around Smoky Yellowstone National Park in 2021
August, 2021-
Mary, myself, Kurt & Sally stayed in the woods, 20 miles outside of West Yellowstone, for about a week.
This photo is where we made Base Camp (Glamping) for about a week...
It was a 25 minute ride...
...to get to the city of West Yellowstone...
...ride thru the tourist oriented downtown of West Yellowstone...
...to get to the West Yellowstone Entrance to the National Park...
...and finally get into this Amazing National Park.

No matter how many times we ride around Yellowstone...
...there is always something new to see...
...some different view... (Mary in the mirror)
...Always interesting...(a look back)
...so many places where the earth is leaking out of its' shell...
...and always great riding roads.

Today, one of the things we're doing...
...is heading over the Divide...
...to take a look at...
...Yellowstone Lake...
...It is Massive...
...It is 131 Square miles and almost 400 feet deep. We found a nice wooded spot next to it to stop for a snack and to look around.

...yeah, it is crazy smoky in the park. Fires all over the place in the western US.

This buffalo was going down and snorting at cars, then going back up on the side, then back down, it appeared very pissed off. We watched it do this 3-4 times...

We did not want this guy coming down to us...Kurt was behind us.
So I rolled slowly by at an idle, thinking we had made it.* Right when we were beside him, he looked down at us, stared for a second...
...then took off after us.* Both myself and Kurt gassed it and got away unscathed.
This was the first time we have seen a bison be aggressive, in person, toward autos or bikes.**
(no, we did not get more pics or video....too busy getting away. lol )
We headed quite a few miles down the road before we pulled over for lunch...
...at a nice spot right next to the river.
Leaving there we saw a more typical sight...us minding our business and the Bison minding his.
Can't remember the name of it...but this is a boiling pool of water, steam, Sulphur smell, hissing as it escapes the earth...all right on the side of the road.

We wondered around the park some more...

...it is quite large at 2,221,776 acres...
...with 251 miles of road in it...
...elevation varies between 5300 feet and 11,300 feet...
...pulled over to see a herd of Bison in a field.
So many different landscapes, next stop is the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

I've already said it, Yellowstone does not get old. Mary and I with the waterfall in the Grand Canyon.

A look of the canyon, downriver from the falls. The canyon is quite large at roughly 20 miles long, and varies from 1500 to 4000 wide.
After a fun day of putting around the park, time to head back to camp.

Even though the max speed limit in the park is 45 MPH, there are a lot of fun roads, sometimes there is traffic, sometimes not.
Getting close to the entrance/exit...
Most of Yellowstone is in Wyoming, some of it is in Montana. The city of West Yellowstone is in Montana, we are camping west of there, right over the Montana/Idaho border.
Back at camp, sunset thru the clouds and smoke.*
Sneak peek at the sunrise the next morning. We are up early to ride Beartooth Pass, BOTH directions. It will be in a different post/thread.
