Tri Glide trunk safety bungee

I used some small d-rings from walmart to connect a bungee to my trunk lid for peace of mind security on the road. I had to replace the upper left bolt in the trunk lid with one a little longer. The factory bolt was to short to connect with the threads with the d-ring attached. The d-rings had to be drilled out to 1/4 inch to allow the bolts to work. The inside top of the trunk bolt under the tour pak just has to have the nut taken off and the d-ring put on and nut replaced. This seems to work and look good.

It seems like all the problems from the door opening stems from the rubber grommet surrounding the pushbutton. If the rubber is not lubricated somehow it tends to get sticky and there is not enough push on the spring to push the button back out. Therefore, it comes out 1/4, to 1/2 to3/4. And those numbers don’t seem to be enough to keep the latch securely closed. I have read a lot of posts on this, and usually the conclusion is lube that rubber so that button moves in and out super easy. Then little bit again next year. The bungee spring option is just for peace of mind for people like me who have had the door open once or twice. All this before I knew about lubricating the rubber grommet around the pushbutton Knowing that it can’t open but a couple of inches, and I won’t be losing anything out the back, gives me a extra security peace of mind mentally. And believe me I could use piece of mind in my mental state.

After I adjusted my stem to factory spec and stopped slamming the door and slowly pushing it shut then locking it before a ride, it hasn’t come opened again.

Yup, slowly pushed it shut till I heard the click. Knew it was good to go then. Never did have it pop open.

Did the same on my 16 & in over 50k trunk never came open. Also did same to the 20 when I brought it home & it has never come open either.
