Want to put Reverse Trike kit on my 2012 GoldWing

After too much research I have decided doing a reverse trike mod on my GoldWing is the way to go. All other things looking to be equal, I am leaning toward the Hannigan Kit because I like the look.

If anyone has any comments, good or bad, please chime in.

I think it would be better for you to try a reverse trike Like a can am F3. I had a Can Am F3 LTD Loved it , but Can am parts take a long to get (dealers do not stock parts) and some dealers started to not repair bikes over 5 years old . So I sold my Can Am and got a Freewheeler . Another issue is some insurance companies don't like conversions, they like only factory ones.

I have the Motor Trike Prowler RT on my 2004 Honda Gl1800. I purchased the bike a couple of weeks ago. The only problem is that it has a wide turning radius, and it is not easy to make a U-turn on a small street .

A friend has a 2017 Can AM RT. I is comfortable enough for me but not for my wife. She says there isn't enough room and doesn't like the seating position. She has always loved the rear seat of the GoldWing so I figured since the standard 3 wheeled trike we tried was too stiff a ride for her I would reverse my current ride and nothing should change for her.

You say a “standard” trike was what you tried.

Do you mean it was a solid axle as opposed to an Independent Rear Suspension .. aka IRS.

The IRS has been known to be more comfortable for the passenger as opposed to a solid axle trike.

i am surprised your wife found the Spyder back seat to not be as comfortable as a Gold Wing seat. I just switched from a 2008 Gold Wing Gl1800 IRS trike to a 2021 Spyder RTLtd and find the Spyder backseat a lot more roomy and plush than the Gold Wing. I am the driver normally but have ridden the backseat on both vehicles from time to time.

I loved my Gold Wing trike.. no it was not a reverse trike. I find I really like this Spyder also. But then I really liked all of my 2-wheelers…

By standard I meant two wheels in the rear. It was a Motor Trike with Independent Rear Suspension. She said it jarred her on a bumpy road. It felt ok to me with a passenger but 1 up it was a little rougher than two wheels.

I just don’t think I could make myself like a reverse trike. I still have to have 1 wheel in the front to feel like I’m riding something close to a motorcycle. I appreciate the technology but it’s just not for me and the turning radius is not that good.

A guy turned in front of me on totaled my 2007 GoldWing which sped up my decision for an RT conversion. The insurance money from the 07 will pay for the Endeavor Trike Conversion on my 2012. With any luck I will be back in the saddle by the end of April. WooHoo!

I suggest you and your wife try different brands of trike conversions. I’m on my second Roadsmith and my wife absolutely loves the ride on both my 1500 and gl1800. Roadsmith has a longer wheel base which makes for a very smooth ride for the passenger. I’ve never known anyone who owned a MotorTrike but people who own California Sidecar and Hannigan rave about their trikes also. Maybe try some different brands before you make your final decision.

My GL1800 Motor Trike was great to ride. I had it for 9 years. Hated letting it go… but there were no Motor Trike mechanics closer than 300 miles and I couldn’t do my own wrenching.

If Honda ever made a factory trike I would snatch one in a second..but they won’t.

Bought a 2021 Spyder RT Ltd… its different because of the 2 wheels in front rather than back like my trike.. it has power steering so makes steering a non-issue. It is comfortable and quick.. has all the same bells and whistles as the Gold Wing. The reverse is SO much better than the Gold Wing. The seat is more comfortable for me than the GW. There is a local shop and the dealer is only 46 miles away..BIG plus factors for me.

As was stated…. Ride different styles and brands then decide which would best fit you.

Not much of a chance to try different trikes around here. I only know two people with GoldWing trikes and 1 with a CanAm. After researching message boards, talking with owners from this and other forums, and riding what is available around here I decided to get the Endeavor Reverse Trike conversion on my 2012 GoldWing. This will give me the security of a trike and not change the ride fit for the wife and I.

I suggest looking at Endeavor Trike in Minnesota. I had Norm Kokes put his CanAm-like front end on my 2016 GW. Every ride I go on I pine away to be on 2 wheels again. But that is not to be anymore. I am the B*stard Child in our riding group. The 2 wheelers and regular trike riders look down on me. But I know that in a panic situation where we all head for the ditch, I am the only one riding my bike out of that ditch.

It is safer on many levels. The challenge is learning how to deal with the Crown of the Lane with the drive wheel in the center and the steering wheels out on the front. It dances around. I am told a Motor Trike does that also. I released my death grip on the hand grips and it got better. I am satisfied with my decision. Dealing with Norm was a delight. Watch his many videos. Dan

Dan, my sentiments also. In dealing with the "crown" in the road, I have found that if I put either the left front or right front tire in one of the wear grooves, and keep it there it does pretty well at not "dancing". If the road is very rough it dance more. I have 48,000 miles on my Endeavor.
