    Default 2014 Tri Glide

Santa brought me a 2014 Tri-Glide for Christmas. It's got about 19K miles on it. I'm going to change all of the oils before I get to froggy on distance trips. I've already made a couple of small changes to it.

My question to you all is how many of you hate the heal shifter for the tranny? It's the first thing I pulled off my '91 Ultra, my '04 RK and now the Tri-Glide. I can't stand the damn things. It makes riding uncomfortable because of lack of room on the shifter floorboard. IMO Harley would do better to offer it as an option.

Zeke........Welcome to Trike-Talk........As far as the heal shifter goes on my 2011 and my 2017...I used it only to find neutral at a stop...Now with my 2019 i use the heal shifter for neutral and all of my up shifting...Just a slight tap on it and it shifts like butter.....No clunk or hesitation......

Welcome to the forum, that is a nice christmas present for sure. Now as far as rear shifter, I always got rid of them myself on all my two wheelers, now with a trike I use it, my 2016 had fancy shift levers, my 2018 has stock except I went with a longer rear shifter for the rear and I love it, gives me plenty of room on floor board, now granted I only wear a 9 1/2 shoe, but I know on my 16 with the fancy levers stock length I could feel the rear once in awhile, but my 18 with longer stock one it is sweet, I have it adjusted where I hardly have to raise my heel at all, love it.

    All for now Trampas

Welcome to the forum. It’s easy enough to remove so it’s not a big deal and I think it now comes without. I like to have it in case I ride to work with my dress shoes.

Welcome to trike talk, I was glad Harley included the heal shifter two years ago we had a group camp out and ride planned and a few days before the camp out started the gout in my left foot starting hurting and I could not use the toe shifter for about four days, I don't think I ever used it before that except to find neutral.

I took the stock one off and added an after market extended one for the heel. Gives you back your room. Use it all the time.

    Yup, same for me.

Interesting story, we were out riding with another trike owner and the front shift lever fell off.

Moved the back one to the front and continued on.

    Default Love my 2014

I love my 2014. Have about 36k miles on it. Would be more if it weren't for winter here in Michigan. I use my heel shifter to upshift ALL the time to upshift, toe to downshift. My boots last longer. BTW....HD did omit the heal shift and made it an option a couple years ago....

    Default 2014 Tri Glide

Easy solution.... just remove it... no biggie...lol Personally, I would NEVER be without a heel shifter. Any bike I ever purchased, if it didn't have 1, that was the first thing I added... Different strokes for different folks.. Ride Safe.

I personally like the toe and heel shifter. It is to owns on likings, if you have one or not. I adjusted both to fit my foot better. I did not adjust them to far, so they still shift properly.

Had the same experience a few years ago. On a ride one of the gals lost here shifter. We took off the heel unit and installed it on the front.

I also installed the H-D extended heel shifter just a little bit above the floorboard and have all the room I need.

I use the heel shifter about 95% of the time. Like someone said=a lot easier to shift and doesn't wear out your boot.

For me it's funny, on my shovelheads I always used the heel toe. When I got the Road King I did not. There was no reason why it just happens that way.

Now on the Tri Glide I use it without thinking about it.

I wear a 15 EEEE boot and have never found the heel shifter to get in the way.

One of my riding buddies with a Tri glide talked me into putting mine back on and trying it. That was last summer and I haven't taken it off yet. I got both levers adjusted properly and now use my heel for upshifting without even thinking about it. For me, it just boiled down to trying it and adjusting the levers correctly for my foot. But it's your ride and your choice.

IN 2020, HD in their "wisdom" think "profit" quit including the rear shifter. That way more sales of rear shifter lever. Would not ride W/O one,so had to buy for the brand new trike. Over the yrs. they always seem to leave something off, & then add it to the options plus raise the price of the bike. Pretty much YOUR bike,YOUR choice. So if you dont like it remove & I,m sure you could give it to someone who doesn't have one.

The heel shifter was one of the first things I attacked on mine.

I have size 12 "skis" and just could not get comfortable or even untangled sometimes.

Like previously posted, I put on an after market 1.5" extended heel shifter and it worked great.

Makes finding neutral super simple with a slight tap.
