So I had some work done on my 2015 recently. The dealer called and said they wanted to buy my trike. They would give me 5K more than I paid for it 2 years ago. I said that I was honored they liked my trike that much but told them I did not have $20,000 that I would have to put out to purchase a new one and then add all the extras that I currently have on this one. This one is paid for and rides just fine. I would rather spend the money on this one and make it really mine!

I don't blame you, why go thru all the hassle of doing everything again on a new bike when you are happy with the one you have. I know dealers around here are buying bikes to have on show room floor. They can't get new bikes to speak of because of parts I would imagine, just like every where else. Trikes are very popular and not just for the older crowd, even the younger ones are getting on board plus women are getting into them. Now a $20,000 deal sounds pretty good for a new bike if they can get it especially for the prices they are getting for them.

20 grand was a wild ass guess! For that cash I can put independent rear suspension and a lot of engine work in my existing bike. That would put the new trike at over $50K which is more than I paid for my new SUV.

A 2021 Tri here was listed at $38k and I am guessing my 2022 Tri is going to be around $40k! Just sayin’!

They offered $30k on my trike. The $20k is in addition so I would still have a comparable trike.

That seems to be a common practice these days. I also got a call from my Ram dealer, just after getting an oil change and tire rotation. Both, mainly due to the lack of "NEW" trucks & bikes. Especially, the OUTRAGES prices they are asking for ALL NEW types of vehicles. As consumers it is definitely not worth it to us with or without a trade-in...

4 years ago I totaled my 2014 TG (with 35K miles on it) just short of the Tail of the Dragon.

After I got out of the hospital (broken neck) I would stop in at the dealer each week to see if they had any used TG's. After about a month they did have one come in. It also was a 2014 with only 856 miles on it, but it was black (I've always had a red bike). I told the salesman if they would sell it for the price I got from State Farm they had a deal. After about 15 minutes they said OK.

I knew one of the service tech's and he and I took off almost all of the accessories and installed them back on the new (old) bike. So, for a few broken bones and bruises, I went from a 2014 with 35K miles to a 2014 with 856 miles. Not a bad deal.....except for the black paint.

Looking back to the 80's I sold 2 of my Harleys for $5K over what I paid for them. When my new Ultra came in, my dealer asked if I wanted to sell it. He had a list of 5 people on his desk that would give me $5K to let them have it. Since I had already sold my bike I said no, but I was tempted. Sadly, those days are long gone.
