I will apologize for the newbie question but I am getting my butt kicked.Just picked up a 22 Tri Glide Ultra. The local Harley dealer supplied 2 wired headsets -( Part # 77147-98A)The passenger has a PTT button on the side of the seat operated by the right hand. The Trike has a Boom Box GTS There is no PTT switch for the rider. Phones are paired and work. I got a phone call and we both could hear the conversation and microphones functioned.Any input on how the intercom between the rider and passenger should function would be greatly appreciated. The dealership can't tell me anything. Thanks and enjoy the day.

on my 2014 it is called VOX, voice on transmit I think. go into your settings and lower the vox setting so the squelch breaks when you speak. I don't have the 2022 but I believe it should be the same.

Welcome Jim and congratulations on your new trike! My 21 does not have a PTT switch on the seat. When we use our wired headsets it is all set up through settings on the BOOM head unit. Everything from if I want the wife to hear my phone call to how sensitive the system is when the voice can interrupt the music. I believe you should have received a manual for your entertainment system with your trike and that should explain most of what you need.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

I've been through the manual and it keeps referring to the PTT switch.

I know when this is resolved I'll be saying, "So it really was that simple?" Most likely a setting in the Boombox system , as was mentioned, that I just haven't found yet. I'm off tomorrow so I'm going to start from scratch and go over it again. Stay tuned!:D

Should be a button on the LH control pod with the picture of a face on it. That's the PTT switch for the rider.

Thanks Dokk. We have tried that button. When pushed, the navigation screen comes up and asks for navigational instructions. EX. "Find restaurants" or something similar.

When I speak I can hear myself in my headset but the passenger does not hear it. After a short time the machine says "Request canceled" When I got the phone call and we were riding, both could hear etc. Music streamed from paired phones works fine. Going to play with it in a bit when it warms up some this morning. :xzqxz:

Hi Jim and welcome. Congrats on your new TG The Boom! Box GTS is a very sophisticated and intimidating creature for sure. Electronics do great things for us but do make things a bit complicated. Hopefully these pointers will help you figure things out.

Firstly - there is no rider PTT unless the dealer installed it and would only do so if a CB module was installed.

You can speak rider to passenger back and forth via Intercom. Intercom must be turned on in settings. Also VOX (sensitivity) can be adjusted. I suggest starting out in the middle.

In settings there are separate volume controls for each input source - intercom, CB (if equipped), AM, FM, weather, Sirius XM (if equipped), phone, etc. These can be adjusted separately for rider and passenger.

In settings there are audio output settings to determine if audio is routed to the speakers or the headset. Intercom can only be routed the headset so no option there.

You should have received a Boom! Box GTS Quick Start Guide and of course an owner's manual. These are helpful so if you have not done so I suggest you look them over.

Good luck it getting this sorted.

Thanks for the input everyone. I went over it again. The dealership is telling me the must have been some type of change in the Boombox for the 22's and they are trying to get confirmation.

It is getting a bit frustrating but it will get figured out. I'm beginning to think the 22's may have to have a WHIM installed, at an extra cost, of course.

Hi again Jim. Just spoke to friend who has a 2022 TG. He confirmed the Boom!Box is same as was on his 2020. So no change. Unless you paid dealer to install WHIM it’s not there. Does not come from factory except CVO models. And with WHIM the wired headsets will not work at all.

If it would help you shoot me an email with your phone number. I’ll give you a call and see if we can walk through the setup.

Thanks Jerry. I will definitely be reaching out to you. The dealership called and "they think" they know what the issue is. I don't have a lot of faith in that. We will see what transpires this afternoon!:D

Intercom issue resolved

First of all, thanks to everyone that reached out to help get this situation resolved.

I took the trike to dealership. After about 15 minutes of the folks there going over everything I had already gone over, the trike was moved into "intensive care". (My words, not theirs)

According to the tech department , when the trike was assembled a "switch" was not turned "ON". (Their words, not mine)

Highlights:

NO PTT, system is VOX. Seems to work pretty well so far, more testing tomorrow!!:D

Jim, if you go to the Harley Davison web site. Put in your Vin#, you can download the Boom Box GTS manual. Doesn't cost anything. I bought one for my 2019. It's close, but there are some changes. Good luck. Jerry

Push to Talk

The voice activation switch is different than the PTT switch. When you have the navigation, that was the voice activation switch.

The PPT switch works in unison with the CB. In earlier models, CB were included on the Ultras, so you got both the CB and the PTT for the rider. When Harly took the CBs off, they also removed the button on the right-hand side for the PTT switch.

As I recall, to get this feature, you will have to purchase the lighted hand controls - think they cost about $275 or so. That control will come with a PTT switch - most folks get these when they buy the CB module.

Also, as an FYI, the PTT use to be on the left. Harley changed that on the 2014 models. Most of us really disliked that. So, Harley made some changes so that you could actually have the sides switched by visiting the dealer and making a computer changed (switched the PTT and the cruise switches). My dealer did not charge to do this

I had my dealer switch the PTT back to the left side of my 18 SG and my new 22 Triglide. I find it easier to talk with it there. I can still hold the throttle on the right, while talking with the left. With the cruise on the right, I can set it easier while using the throttle.
