2021 Travel Mode Security

I have trailered my 2021 Tri-Glide short distance several times with no issues. But a recent trip to Fl. form MD. proved me that i should have read the owner's manual because it has a transport/trailer mode on it and the security system will kill and damage the battery.

The dealer won't remove that feature has anyone dealt with this, to me it is a feature that has no importance. Can it be removed?

Placing it in travel mode is a very simple thing, on my 17 you turn the ignition to run then turn it of then quickly press both turn signals at the same time, the turn signals will flash, its ready to be towed.

Yeah, i am afraid of relying on that. I want a positive kill switch. I must admit the travel mode makes no sense to me. If the key fob is 8 feet away it won't start and still can be stolen or trailered away or rode away with the fob.

Harley was overthinking the travel mode IMHO .

I am grateful for the information and once i change the battery after 1,500 miles i will have to take a deep look into how to work with this feature. This is all my fault as i did not read the owner's manual. But have trailered it a few times short distances. We all pay for our mistakes, not the first and not the last. LOL

Less than 3 min & you can put it in Travel Mode. Simple process. Check the manual. I use it a few times a year.

Every time i ever trailed any of my Tri-Glides [3]....I just left the Pod in the trunk..And i never had a problem doing that way...

Yes, i had my key fob in the tour-pack and in a enclosed trailer the way i travel with my other bike a 2007 ultra with sidecar. Then they added this great feature.

I have trailered the trike 3 or 4 times no issue short distance 3 hours away behind the motorhome and never a problem i guess a 20-hour difference caused the issue

I have trailered mine to Florida from Ohio a couple times and never had a issue.

We have trailed our different trikes many thousands of miles without a problem using the transport mode, never a problem. It really takes less than 30 seconds to complete the sequence.

I have towed my trike from San Diego to North Caolina and back with it in transport mode and never had any problems.

Hi David and welcome. After reading your post I am a bit confused about the exact nature of your concern. In any case hope this helps.

Transport mode does NOT disable the security system. Bike will not start without the fob present. What is DOES do is disable the 'alarm' features of the security system - the flashing lights and in the case of CVO models the siren. The siren is not standard on non-CVO models but can be added.

It is the flashing lights (and possible siren) that drain the battery. In an enclosed trailer obviously you cannot see the lights are flashing as you drive down the road.

Rest assured you bike is fully protected and the security system is fully functional while in transport mode.

The next time you turn the ignition on with the fob present everything goes back to 'normal' and the lights (and siren if equipped) will function.

Everything you said is spot on and correct. My post(s) were made as i did not know this was even a feature on the bike. I think in my opinion the feature is not a well thought out option and i think it is worthless feature.

And if someone wants to steal a bike, they will do it without the Fob, with the transport mode on or off, they will just take what they want.

The transport mode is so you don’t run down the battery while transporting it has nothing to do with thief!…! The Fob is just as small layer of protection against thief…And yes if they want it they’ll take it with the trailer and all..

I agree with Rhino 2 and other responders to your initial inquiry. The Transport Mode is only there to save your battery on a long "trailering" trip. I learned the hard way, as you have, and did not use transport mode on a trip from FL to SD. Got there with a dead battery. Pardon the pun but it was deader than a fart!! Luckily for me I always take a charger with me and was able to get the battery charged up again. Learned a lesson and not always use Transport Mode when trailering the Trike.
