    Default Wood WM8-22xe Cam

    Have a 2021 Tri-Glide (V&H 4.5" Power Shots, V&H Head Pipes, Big Sucker A/C, S/E 447 Cam, Harley Pro-Street Tuner).

    I am changing out the Pro-Street Tuner for the Dyno-Jet before Spring.

    Along with the Dyno-Jet Tuner - I'm seriously considering changing the S/E 447 Torque Cam for the Wood WM8-22xe Cam.

    According to Fuel Moto it will give me additional grunt over a broader RPM range.

    They are also suggesting that I do Adjustable Pushrods, Lifters, the Inner Cam Shaft Bearing, and Billet Tappet Cuffs.

    It all comes in their kit (tappet cuffs are extra).

    Just wondering if the Wood WM8-22xe Cam is really going to give me that much of an upgrade over the S/E 447 Torque Cam.

    On another Forum - I've been told that it really won't offer that much extra over the useable RPM range to justify the expense and just changing from the Pro-Street Tuner to the Dyno-Jet will make a huge difference.

    The "Kit" is about double the cost of just the cam. Do I really need the lifters, Inner Cam Shaft Bearing, and Billet Tappet Cuffs?

    I can see using Adjustable Push Rods.

    Any thoughts from anyone?

    I would put the Power Vision tuner on what you already have and ride it JMO

    If you do change the cam for sure change the lifters, (always matched sets)

    For sure use a better tappet cuff, talk to Fuel Moto about the S&S style

    Here is the dyno sheet for my 17 with the 107 using the S&S 465 cam. With the 114 engine you would see greater numbers. I am using the Fullsac sportpipe head pipe along with a TTS tuner, i am very happy with this combo because it has great torque right off idle. Also keep in mind that a trike will show approx. 10 hp and 10 ft lbs less torque because of parasitic drag of the two back wheels.

    In another post different forums, asked Jamie if the 22xe would work for a trike. His response was you could use it, but, he recommended the 22x of the rs468, stating the xe will be a little soft down low with the heavier trike. I also inquired with Sheffer performance about the cr480, response was he didn’t know as he has never done one. Also looking into the ss465 as mentioned above. Let’s face it, with the simple mods I have, the trike can hit 100 mph with some more left, but who really needs to go faster. A bit more power would be nice, especially for passing situations lol. It’s the 1800-3000 rpm range that is the concern with a heavy trike. Extra torque to get the trike moving is the key. Just an additional note, FM’s dyno sheets you need to look at what exhaust they use. A 2:1 will give you a much better curve than a 2:2.

    I've also been looking into a cam change.

    Sheffer did do a cr480 in a 107 and it went 115/101.

    He also did the rs468 in a 117 trike and it went 125/105.

    Hard to find many trike dyno runs.

    Right now I am leaning towards the 480 for my 117 cvo.

    The reason I chose the S&S 465 was after watching many videos on dyno tuning from different tuners it was Moonshine HD's video that swayed me. They did a cam shoot out using the same bike with several different cams. There are cams out there that will make more HP and torque than the 465, but it was where it made torque down low in the rpm range. The wife and I are not at are teenage weight anymore plus we tow a trailer so low end was my major concern. Well my trike runs just the way I was hoping for, besides if I want to rip and tear I still have my cammed Road King.

    I've used S&S cams for over 35 years now and have never had one that didn't preform exactly as advertised if not better.

    465 would be my choice.
