    Default First problems with Miss Mysterious...

    Not much riding lately and when I did get to ride everything was smooth while shifting at 3k with no problems...after warming up started riding a little harder and hit 3rd and with a hard twist the RPMs went up without the power band...like the clutch slipping are the trans slipping...Indy will have it Monday and he does think clutch or trans bearing...idk...will see...42k on the clock...

    Sounds like a slipping clutch

    Does it do the same ( revving up) in the higher gears also?

    If not, many reports of 3rd gear set problems on HD 6 speeds

    Hydraulic Clutch? If so when was the last time you had the fluid flushed or changed out? Should happen at least every 2 years. Check the moisture content in the fluid. Additionally, your brake fluid should be flushed every 2 years also. My bet is the moisture content is high and after warming up it created some air in the system, expanded and caused the clutch to slip.

    AS Kool in post #3 has mentioned, if you have not bled your clutch fluid I would start there

    If yours has never been done, it needs it now for sure

    If you do it yourself, start by sucking out as much old fluid from the master as you can

    Wipe out the master cylinder with a Q tip or lint free cloth

    This will get the muddy residue built up from the assembly fluid, that is bad JUJU and you do not want that going back thru the system. Refill the master and pump the clutch a couple of times, does it feel OK now? If the color of the fluid darkens right away, you will for sure want to bleed the slave cylinder @ the tranny behind the faux cover

    Now, some of the faux side covers where the bleeder screw is will come off without removing the exhaust system, some you have to remove the heat shields and loosen the head pipes

    You can also remove the 2 mounting bolts on the cover pull the cover out far enough to run a 10mm socket and extension in to open the bleeder without having to touch the exhaust, crack the bleeder open and gravity bleed for 3 minutes keeping the master topped off.

    Next, pump the clutch a few times, how does it feel? If good, put the cover on, top off the master and go for a ride.

    recheck the fluid, if it turned dark, suck it out of the master and refill

    Clean fluid ( changed every 2 years) will give your clutch longer life and better control of your clutching

    If you are mechanically inclined, get you one of these as they are a great tool and have a reasonable cost. Takes the guess work out of brake fluid moisture levels.

    Very handy tool, I have had a Mac Tools fluid tester since the 80s, not cheap but very accurate

    Some dealers will suggest flushing/replacing clutch and brake system fluids every year, some say every two years. Most dealers down in Florida push the every year plan.

    If that is what is going on with yours then maybe no harm done.

    Fluid testers are so inexpensive now there is really no reason not to have one. Tip: if you change your own fluid like I do always test your new bottle of brake fluid before using. Believe it or not Ive found brand new off the shelf brake fluid testing in the yellow zone.
