Thread: Lehman trike rear brake cylinders

    Default Lehman trike rear brake cylinders

    It has been a while since I visited the forum. To begin the 2022 riding season, my trike is in need of rear brake wheel cylinders. The Lehman trike is a conversion to a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard C50, and I understand they used to use a rear axle from or created from 1973-78 series of Mustang II. Do the Mustang II brake cylinders fit or work for this? If not, what brake cylinder do I need to find?

    Looking forward to a superb riding season!

    Yes, the brakes are just regular Ford 9" drum brakes as used on many car lines for many years, the wheel cylinders are Pinto ones. Look closely at piston diameters though, maybe be a good idea to measure yours too as they are available in different diameters. Assume that pressure in a line will be same, a larger wheel cylinder with greater surface area over the piston will apply more brake force to the shoes, but will take more fluid to do it, so pedal travel increases. Pintos, Mustang IIs, etc pretty light so they used smaller ones than a Granada or Torino or Ranger pickup for example.

    Some of the Ford 9" rear brakes used wheel cylinder links similar to the one pictured here, others did not, the brake shoe had a protrusion built in
    Nuff Said," Were Burnin Daylight, Lets Ride"(Sober 37 years)
    Current ride : 2021 FREEWHEELER M8, oldest ride 1960 FL

    I use Rock Auto to look up parts and then look at specifications as some manufacturers are very good about posting such ... like wheel cylinder piston diameters.

    Ford used some oddball cylinder diameters, example 29/32

    More popular in the industry was 7/8
