    Default Questions re: 2007 Motortrike

    Hey All;

I am looking at a 2007 MotorTrike conversion , 42k miles but no other info from selling dealer.

    His asking price is $19,900.00

Is there anyway to tell if the machine has the "easy steer" installed ?

Any thing else all you knowledgeable folks can share that I should be looking at ?

    Thanks for any help

    Doug

douglas motortrike offered the easy steer as an option so it's a may or may not if you can look at the bike see if you can see the trees. if they are painted black they maybe stock. good luck

If the Bike/trike has been taken care of the mileage is not an issue. I have 62k on my 13 and would ride it anywhere..

I think the price is a bit high in my opinion. Good Luck. 16 to 17 would be closer to what it is worth. I bet they got it for next to nothing on a trade.

You mentioned MotorTrike conversion - however, did not mention what the bike is - Harley, GoldWing or other.

Triple trees - I am hopeful that you have taken an opportunity to teat ride the bike. If you did, how is the steering - trust me, you will know if the trees have been changes. Triple trees will feel almost like power steering.

Also, if this is a GoldWing, ask your dealer if he will service it. Many Honda dealers will not service bikes over 10 years old. If a Honda, consider joining GWRRA - that group of folks will become very helpful for you.

    All the best.

And… it has been my experience that Honda dealers will not even touch it because it is a TRIKE and not a 2-wheeler… not even an oil change on the Honda-end of it.

    My bad, it's a Honda .

The dealer is not a Honda store , the owner has a few cars for sale but he mostly has motorcycles. He has been in business over 30 years , seems like a pretty straight shooter, no BS kind of guy.

I'll try to arrange a test ride next week if the bike is still there.

He moves a lot of iron , inventory changes quickly. He gets pretty high marks from customers.

    Best Regards ;

    Doug

The dealer is not a franchised Honda store. He sells cars and bikes, inventory moves quickly kind of a no BS guy. He gets high marks from customers , comes highly recommended .

He does not do service .

If Honda dealers won't service trikes , who does and how do you keep up with regular maintenance ? I'm too old and gimped up to be crawling around under machines any more.

    Thanks, Doug

I couldn’t do my own oil changes or service the trike kit part of my 2008 Gold Wing Motor Trike Adventure kit. For several years I took it to a friend who could.. 150 miles from me. This gentleman decided the years were catching up and decided not to do anymore outside work. At that point I very reluctantly sold my wonderful Gold Wing trike and bought a new 2021 Can-Am Spyder RT Ltd. The dealer is only 46 miles from me. It has all the bells and whistles and handles very well. I will say that I prefer the 2 wheels in back rather than front that the Spyder has, but it is comfortable and quick and serves my needs.

Now I have to solve the maintenance issue . Just one more thing I was hoping to be easy but it's just another crap thing.

I have considered a Can Am , but can't get past the look, and holy moly are they expensive. I can only imagine the electronic disasters from all the whiz bang stuff .

All these new bikes, trikes, Can Am things are just like cars today. Way more complex than I need or want.

    Thanks for the input

    Doug,

You expressed my thoughts exactly. I sold my Spyder when the warranty ran out and went back to a Goldwing trike. I loved riding my former Spyder...... When it was not in the shop! And replacing a sensor or other seemingly minor repair always took more than a month due to parts availability and special mechanic's time scheduling.

Servicing in my area for a Honda Trike is not a problem. There are independent shops that I use. And they are more reasonably priced than the factory dealers. You may find the same in your area.

But, I think your selling dealer is a bit high on the asking price. I think you should be able to find one like that in the 16-17K range. Good luck..... Jim

I'm still on the fence about a trike, but SWMBO played the trump card ( not that butt head)

She say's if I am bound and determined to continue riding it's gotta be a trike.

So my search begins again, but thanks to this group I feel a bit better educated on what to look for and some danger stuff to avoid.

The machine I mentioned previously was still available this past week , so I can put my serious buying face on and get a test ride.

I'll let you all know as things progress.

www.kdcycle.net I'd get a Roadsmith or a CSC trike. Made better & easier service

They are the top two brands in the trike world

Glad you found something to consider. The GoldWing is a pretty reliable bike. When we had ours, wife rode the trike and I had the two wheeler, for the most part, all we needed was one oil change per year. Never needed rear tires on the trike - and, we had that for 6 years. Think my wife put about 50K on the rear.

So, for the one you are looking at - what trike kit is on that bike? Try to determine when it was installed. Also, look for a kit that has independent suspension. A single axel will ride a lot harder.

Also, make sure you get one that has been raked. Otherwise, I believe you will find it difficult to handle at times. Good luck to you.

The suspect I went to investigate did not pass muster . :-(

I have found another Goldwing a 2002 model with 42k on it.

The trike was converted by an outfit way up north Torbleau Trikes , they have been around for a while , but I have never seen one ??

It's a 5 hr. drive for me to see it so the seller and I are trying to figure a half way point . He sounds pretty motivated.

Any help or comments or first hand knowledge of them is appreciated !!

Also , I have tried to contact a seller in the "classified section" and am told my account does not have that privilege ?? How the heck does anybody sell stuff if a prospective buyer can't reach them ??

I'm sort of new here have been lurking around for a while and don't know all the rules yet.

How does one become a Gold Member ?

( He who has the gold makes the rules)

Not being able to respond to a classified puts a seller in an awkward position , kind of limits the ability to sell anything ??

    (no disrespect meant )

    Thanks , Doug

Kind of limits a sellers opportunity to actually sell something .

Also deny 's prospective buyers access to purchase ,but those are the rules .

Agreed but the spammers were using it cause problems so that was the better option after not having it at all for a period of time.I believe you can send Papa Zook and maybe a moderator a message and they can forward that to the person you are trying to get in touch with and arrange for contact in some instances.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
