I put DK's relocation kit on my Freewheeler along with the reusable oil filter. Glad I did it.

The only pictures I can find show the filter placed under the passenger footboard.

If that's the only location it really doesn't appeal to me.

Same theory as DK , just shorter lines and different location . Unfortunately the location it’s mounted to on my tri , currently has a oil cooler mounted there .

What year is the Tri Glide? The reason I ask is that if it is an M8, there is something you need to be aware of. With the M8, Harley changed the routing of the oil. The pressure sensor gets it input at the output of the pump (obviously), where the oil is now routed to the engine. If you have a break/leak in a line between the pump and the engine, you will be running the engine with little/no oil until the pan is completely dry and the pump cannot pick up anything, at which time your oil light will come on, probably a couple of miles down the road since you started running on little/no oil. This is, of course if you don't see the leak.

Don't ask me how I know this....

    YMMV

Whoever designed 3 Guyz website should be dragged behind a trike for 30 miles then left by a bridge to be butt raped by a gang of trolls. That black background with red lettering just screws with my old eyes. I do like the plumbing on that filter but the silly pressure gauge looks like an afterthought. A1 cycles has a better looking set up.

You forgot to mention they left the hose clamp loose. Of course you're going to lose oil. I'm waiting for a response from DK on this.

I got a reply from DK. on this issue. They install oil filter relocation kits on M8 Harleys all the time without a problem. Perhaps I don't understand what the poster was saying.

    Dale,

Like already mentioned it is the same basic principle of a relocation kit. DK's is mounted under the passenger footrest left side as you know. I have one on my tri. That location is easy to get to and makes filter changes a snap. The only thing I see on the 3 Guyz is I believe it would interfere with your Lower fairing on the left side. Even if you got it into the space available the filter removal MAY be a problem. Hard to tell without actually having the item and seeing the fit. 3 Guyz products appear to be more geared for the custom market that would not have a lower fairing.

MY DK install I painted the fitting black and run a black cover filter. The installation then blends in with the black frame and is not as noticeable.

    Both get the job done.

I figured the three guys setup wouldn't fit with the lowers being in the way. I may just to go with the d k setup. I contacted three guys they told me that they would fit on the tri-glide but I don't think they were talking about the M8 Motors.

Nope, absolutely not saying don't run it. Just be aware of the potential for problems. With a proper install and regular hose/clamp inspection, I can't imagine you would ever have a problem, barring the one in a million shot of a piece of road debris or something puncturing a line....

I had one of the DK kits installed on my 2018 by a dealer about 30 miles away. On the ride home from picking it up. Just as I got off the interstate at my exit, my oil light came on. After the initial "oh shit, what is that moment" I realized what the light was and hit the kill switch and pulled to the side of the ramp. did a quick inspection and found a hose blown off. Called the dealer and he dispatched a "tech" to come to me. He reinstalled the clamp and put oil in. Started the bike back up and not so nice noises coming from the engine.

On the M8, due to the way the oil is routed, the light does not come on until the pan is empty, so with the line blown off, I had been riding at 80mph with no oil going to the engine for however long it takes to empty the pan.

Luckily, the dealer stood behind his mistake. I still have the bike and all is well.

On Tri Glides from 2009-2013, you can remove the lower fairings and put a downtube mounted oil filter relocation as seen in the photo below. You can also run this style on all Freewheelers.

With fairing lowers, the best place we've found is under the rear passenger floorboard/peg. This is also, imo, a cleaner install, even without lowers. See photos below.

You can see at a distance, the all black is practically unnoticeable.

Sorry they messed up your install, glad they got it taken care of for you.

Are you sure about the oil gauge? I am not with my manuals right now, but seems to me that the sensor is in the same location as the Twin Cams. Maybe Jack can chime in on that.

In any case, there are thousands and thousands of M8's out there with oil coolers & oil filter relo's that all have rubber hose (as well a hundreds of thousands of Twin Cams with rubber hoses) and as long as they are installed correctly there is no issue with them.

Rubber hose and hose clamps have been the standard for decades, both on motorcycles and automobiles. But like anything else, they have to be installed correctly.

Your post does bring up a point that we have noticed in the last few years. There is a growing ignorance of HOW to use a hose clamp among the youth (probably goes hand in hand with the slow death of common sense occurring). We did a video that some may find interesting about hose clamps (most people tighten them too much and cut into the hose).

Hahaha...Kevin if you like them thar hose clamps just wait till they invent the C clamp .You'll be able to hold your cross vise to the table without it sliding around..hahaha. As far as rubber hose- My '76 FXE still has the original hose in the "oil filter relocation" I did around '78. Actually the in tank silly fiber "filter" was considered by HD as state of the art back then. I read an article in Easyriders about using a Volkswagen Beetle oil filter mount so I went to the junk yard...excuse me Auto Recycling Center, all the rage back then( we didn't have the internet in those days so we went to the junk yard for entertainment) and scored one. Been working fine ever since.

After talking with the guys from DK, (email) and getting no reply from the people at 3 Guyz, I went with the DK oil relocation kit and the oil cooler. I wasn't real enthused about mounting the oil filter under the left side passenger floorboard. But after installing it, it looks pretty good. Just got back from a long ride and I'm more than happy with the DK system.
