I'm thinking of placing the radiator and fan horizontally on top of the "trunk" of my trike. Will this still cool enough for road use ?

If your can blows enough cfm for good air flow you should be fine
Might want a pusher fan under the radiator to push heat away?

might consider a scoop and/or ducting to direct air flow to underside of radiator if needed..
How "water proof" are the electric motors on radiator fans ? - - - especially if the electric motor is facing down instead of horizontally.?
I think they are very waterproof.
I know it's apples to oranges here, but my old nova with a 350 always ran hot on hills. I had taken the water pump fan off and put an electric fan on. I ended up taking the electric fan off and just goin to the water pump fan.and that's a car with an open grille, the wind could blow right through.
The fan is mostly only needed when you are idle. When you are moving the fan is not providing the air the movement of the air thru the grill is. You have some other issue going on.
You maybe right but the stock fan fixed it. And I didn't put the electric fan on because it was overheating. I did it to gain a little more power.
