Default Anyone here have spinal stenosis

Just wondering if anybody has spinal stenosis, started having trouble at the beginning of the year, went to a crack doctor and after 14 visits I wasn't getting any better. Went to a walk in clinic and and saw a doctor and then they said pt and a MRI, started the pt and then had the MRI and fount out I have 2 places in low back that narrow in spinal canal. The pt helped a little and I know I will never get rid of it, I will have to live it in the mean while but I don't want surgery at the moment.

My question is does anybody have it and are still riding, at this moment I haven't dug my trike out of winter storage yet, and I'm kinda mad about this, had a doctor say riding a motor cycle won't do me any good and he said you might be done with riding, hope not.

    All for now Trampas

James, Hi have been riding with it plus I have degenerative discs, 2 in the lower back pinching a nerve in my left leg

My Dr said I can ride, I will know when I can no longer ride, He did say it is like a marble in a tin can being shook up all day LOL

I have made several trips to MN from Florida on my trikes and once on a Harley Dyna Street bob

I hope you can continue to ride, I am

Find a good Neurosurgeon or a great Orthopedic spine surgeon. There's no need to suffer with spinal stenosis much anymore. Had mine fixed years ago. I'm sure they've come a long way since. But even with it I road many 8 hr. days on my Ultra. The trick at least for me was the back rest. Made me sit right in the saddle. If we were on a ride and just stopped for gas, I never got off the bike. Getting on and off was the worst.

Agreed... doctors and the rest of the medical world don't like motorcycles.

I had spinal stenosis. Was fixed at the same time I had to have a blown out disc removed. I now some years later have back issues and wonder if spinal stenosis can reoccur. Probably just arthritis now. Riding seems to ease my pain if I put 100 or so miles on at a time.

I have it in my neck and it plays hell with my hands and arms. I get some relief from Steroid shots.

Thanks for all the replies, I don't plan on giving up riding, I know doctors don't like motorcycles, I guess I will know when I will have to quit riding and hope that is a long time in the future.

I know when I have to mow the yard, I take 2 aleve and wait for it to kick in then mow the yard, works for me. Just wish I could take aleve full time but it has side effects I don't want so I take it when needed, mow yard, etc etc. I have been trying to find something I could take everyday to help this condition but haven't found anything yet that doesn't have side effects for long term.

I know I bought a exercise ball like they had when doing PT and I'm doing most of the exercises that I did in PT, seems to help some, I know I will have this the rest of my life, just wish it would have come when I was in my 80's instead of 70's.

Hang in there. My first lower back surgery was 2001 and my most recent was 2016- 4 total and now I have a neuro stimulator in my back to help block the pain. I had to stop riding for about 7 years because I couldn't push the big bikes around any more but then I found the Trike and I'm riding again and loving it. Backrest is a life saver for me, and now the reverse too. Take care of yourself and hope you can keep riding for a long time!

I didn't play a Doctor on TV but I am one.So, I thought I would give a bit of perspective on spinal stenosis and motorcycles and spinal stenosis from a doctor who owns and rides a motorcycle. The thought that we hate motorcycles probably comes from comments in the press after interviewing a doctor shortly following their treatment of a motorcycle accident victim in which the press twists the physicians' comments.

Over my career I have had to evaluate about a dozen brain dead motorcycle accident victims for fitness of their organs to be used in transplants. It is a pretty horrendous sight to see a young person's skull crushed but worse is watching the harvesting of their organs. What's left is a skin, bone, and muscle carcass lying on a table much like a cow being butchered. Leaves a bad taste in your head.

Most Drs I know do not hate motorcycles and many own and ride them. I think the percentage of Drs that hate motorcycles is the same as in the general population. There are several causes of spinal stenosis>>See link below

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...ave%20symptoms.

By far the most common cause is bulging disks, which I suspect is the OPs problem. Our bodies are quite like our motorcycles, with time, use, and abuse, parts wear and break down. Our body parts are no different.Spinal stenosis from bulging disks worsens with age, use and trauma (as in bouncing up and down) while walking, riding in a car, or on a motorcycle.

Spinal stenosis never improves on its own and barring surgery you can only slow it or treat the symptoms (pain, numbness, etc.)At some point it will get bad enough to cause permanent damage to your nerves resulting in pain all the time, weakness, numbness, and even paralysis. And for you younger fellas' impotence and loss of bowel and bladder control.

Surgery should be a last resort as often it doesn't work, sometimes makes matters worse, and may cause complications. There is no good answer to the question of when to have surgery. It is not a doctors job or place to tell someone they can or cannot ride. It is our job to (the best of our ability) evaluate your condition and explain to you the risks and benefits of your options relative to treatment and continuing to ride or not.Put a gun to my head and demand an answer to "can I keep riding" and I will say no. Not on principal but because of the legal liability.

A yes followed by worsening symptoms or disability almost assures a lawsuit. Thank our legal system for that.As to treatment get a good evaluation by a good doctor first, evaluate the options and then decide.Steroids and physical therapy were mentioned above. Depending on cause and location physical therapy or special exercises can make matters worse. Steroids are great for relieving symptoms, but their use is limited, and they can cause a range of other problems. Some say steroids can make a dead person feel better until the steroids kill them.

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-pro...t/pac-20384794

It's your body and your life, gather all the info you can, and you decide what to do. Lots of quacks and idiots out there giving bad advice.

On behalf of the Loyal Order of Quacks and Idiots Guild- I resemble those remarks. Furthermore, I wouldn't treat a patient stupid enough to consult a Quack like me- and dont forget Idiot. Therefore be it resolved and prescribed: I recommend anyone thats in pain to ride that dang motorcycle. If youre in pain it means your alive. Dont feel pain it means your dead. Dead people dont ride motorcycles. Thank you. And remember our motto: "We dont care about you".Good night Chesty Puller wherever you are.

I have tried the gummy route, doesn't work for me, the ones I take are 300 mg and I take 4 a day, 2 in morning and 2 in late afternoon, according to the directions on the bottle, was hoping they would work but alas they don't for me anyway.

300 mg for each “CBD” gummy ? Or 300 for the whole bottle/jar?..Net Weight.

MG‘s of each gummy versus the total weight of all the gummy‘s in a jar’s labeling on some CBD’s is ambiguous..The ones that work for me are 50 Mg’s each (Fusion CBD ) I take one in the morning two at night And that’s for me just experimenting there isn’t a recommended dosage on the jar 🫙 all it says is activation one to two hours after taking…. I guess everybody’s body reacts differently but also talking to the growers/farmers of the hemp is that all gummy‘s are Not created equal…

Ok I re-read the bottle and it is 300 mg for whole bottle, and it is 40mg for 4 gummies, guess I need to read lapels and directions a little better LOL It still doesn't do it for me, brand name is Natures Only, these didn't cost me a cent, my ex-girl friend sent me 6 bottles of it and I have 4 gummies left.

At 10 Mg’s per gummy you might might as well be chewing on Junior Mints ..

Also in my estimate things that are free are worth what you paid for…Also Hemp (CBD’s)..Are Time’ Light and Humidity Sensitive as far as Their potency goes..

I would like to know why these gummies are so expensive, here where I live there is one close to me but for crying out loud, $34.95 for 10 gummies and only 25 mg per gummy. I look at the Fusion one that rhino 2 mention and they are not much cheaper, $132 for 75 of them and they are 50 mg each. Not sure if I would have to pay shipping on this not, I didn't persue it. Of all the stores we have here only 25 mg or less is what you can get. These companies think people are rich and I for one I'm not rich, I don't care if they would help that is still alot of money to put out when a person can't afford it unless you don't eat.

    All for now Trampas

I get them from a store (Walk in) that’s only a few miles away it’s like 45 dollars for 25 @ 50 MG each that’s with a military discount I bought a bottle of 75 but they were only 20 MG’s each and that was about $79 out the door … within a 25 mile radius of me is at least seven stores that sell gummy‘s everyone has different prices and different brands ??

since they legalize it here in Jersey it’s like the wild west the stores are opening up all over and you got to be careful because some people are ‘not’ very knowledgeable at what they are selling??

I had it in my neck and it was so painful i could not even ride in the car. I had to keep my right arm down at my side, sitting or standing. I tried to ride my bike when i first got it and only made it about 2 blocks and didn"t think i was going to make it back home.

I got a series of 3 shots between the discs in my neck and got relief. Been good since 2010. Man, i hope that never comes back.

CBD gel capsules, non-candy based, at about 10 mg/cap/$1.25 are quite effective at MMJ licensed stores in this state.

Sugar anything is pouring gas on the fire internally speaking at every inflammation point/region.

Develop whole food fresh food menu of meals.

Daily exercise at your capabilities. I do about 1hr divided into 3 parts; stretch, resistance tubes, elliptical, most days.

My doc says "growing old isn't for the faint-hearted" and seniors need put in 2x the effort dealing w/aging issues.

    YMMV.
