Anyone been to Cherokee NC??

We're planning a trip on the Blue Ridge 13-15 May. Never been to Cherokee but would like to overnight there. Stayed in Pigeon Forge when I rode the Dragon but that town was just too busy and congested for my liking. Can anyone tell me how Cherokee compares to Pigeon Forge and possibly recommend a motel?? We plan to run from Charleston WV. directly to Cherokee and overnight there. Then head back North on the Blue Ridge Saturday and Sunday. We had hoped to do the rally but couldn't arrange a "dog sitter" for those dates.......maybe next year!!

Greydog, Mike and I have stayed in the Holiday Inn Express across from the casino in Cherokee before. Very clean, comfortable and affordable. There is a lot less traffic in Cherokee than in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and it is right in the middle of great riding in all directions! But remember, it is still a tourist area, so it is not going to be a quiet little country town ;).

Cherokee is a total opposite to Pigeon Forge. Quiet by comparison. Two area to stop and shop in town on 441 and on 19. Never stayed as we live close but plenty of motel choices and places to eat. If you like the casinos Harrah's runs it for the Tribe.. A new welcome center has just opened near the entrance to the Smoky Mtn Park on the North Carolina side. Haven't been yet but read about it..If I can be of any other assistance PM me. Ride safe and enjoy..

:Biker:Check out the Ironhorse Lodge south of Cherokee at ironhorselodgenc.com:D It is a great place to stay, good food, clean rooms and not overpriced. It is a motorcycle lodge. My friends and I go there about 4 or 5 times a year.
I plan to stay there during the TOI Rally in June.

Yes, I have been to Cherokee and spent the night too. Its a OK casino if you like ALL electronic gambeling. NO cards! Seems funny. But OK!

I always try to stay at the casino's hotel because of the safety issue of not having to go outside or into garages at night. Probably, just me I am very pre-cautious!

It's a fantastic ride getting there however! Plan on extra time because you will be doing 25 miles an hour on a lot of the beautiful curvy roads. I got behind a MotorHome two years ago that had trouble on turns. It took a long time and we only averaged 15 MPH!

I ride into WV every year with neighbors from Summerfield. In WV you have some beautiful areas to ride also!

Thanks for all the replys. Now we just have to hope for good weather!!! we've had nothing but rain for most of the spring. Speed restrictions on the parkway are the reason we decided to run that on the return leg of the trip. We allowed two days to get home so we can take our time and enjoy the ride!!
Yes, we have some great riding here in West Virginia. We have a day trip planned with some friends to ride down to the New River Gorge then over to Summersville and on to the scenic highway up to Cranberry around to Elkins and back home on RT33. About a 400 mile jaunt!! Again waiting for dry weather!!
